This has been asked countless times and invariably starts arguments. In a nutshell, any modification you make MAY potentially affect your warranty. If a failure can be attributed to the modification then a claim could be denied. Having said that, there are countless chipped VWs around and I haven't read of any claims being denied. Can VW tell if it has been chipped? If they go looking, yes but it is unlikely they will, unless you encountered a major failure and they were searching for a cause.

    Cheers

By all accounts it is unlikely but you have to decide whether to run the risk. A similar situation exists with insurance, whilst it is unlikley that an insurer would detect a chip, if they do and you have not declared the modification they COULD potentially knock back a claim.

Each individual has to make the decision as to what they do in this regard

No easy answer to this question unless someone can scan their Owners Handbook and put it up here for all to see.

My opinion is that for any claim to be denied they woud have to prove that the chip/flash or whatever directly contributed to the damage.

you're all correct: if the modification you perform contributes to whatever failure you have then warranty on that part is void. EG: if i fit a custom less restricted exhaust to my car, no part of my warranty will be changed even if something goes wrong because the exhaust will actually be better for the car than the stock one.

if i were you i would do some research on overseas forums to see if anyone with a twincharger setup has done any tuning and if any problems have arised. theres tonnes of info on gti's and tdi's so i'm sure you can find something on your tsi
