  • GT and GT Sport Difference

    Hi Guys,

I have been looking at getting a GTI for a while now, but have now started looking at the GT Sport. I'd like to get one with leather and Xenons but that spec will be a factory order and not arrive till october.

As I would like a car sooner I have started looking at used cars and demos.

What I would like to know is, what is the difference between the GT that was originally brought out and the GT Sport TSI that is for sale now? As far as I can tell the engine is the same?

    Thanks!!

Yes the Grill is different, it also has different wheels and a bit more hp, I belive that the earlie Gt where only 140hp and the new Gt sports is 170Hp

Some of the earlier GT's had the silver headlights rather than the darkened ones. Not a huge thing for most people, but I much prefer the darkened headlight casing.

GT silver headlights, GT Sport black.
colour coded centre front bar, gloss black.
                  GT badges, GT Sport badges.
GT has brick pattern on side seat bolsters, GT Sport has plain fabric.
GT Sport has the 08 style mp3 head unit.
Oh, and I believe the Sport now has an 'el cheapo' battery cover now instead of the GTs all plastic type (haven't seen this myself yet).

Same engines, 'boxes, wheels, brakes, other equipment AFAIK. I also believe the Sport's RRP is slightly higher than the GT's when it was introduced (can't confirm this either).

There were 420 GTs brought in (300 DSG & 120 6MT I believe) and plenty of these came in with leather, sunroofs &c.. Can't say I've seen any bog standard models yet.

Happy hunting - you'll love it.

                      True. Sad but true.
Only notice when you open the bonnet obviously

I'd like to claim that it is lighter, therefore superior. haha

The petrol GT Sport has a TSI badge on the back - GT has GT.

Thanks for all the info guys. Have to decide whether to wait for the exact spec that I want or not. Saw a silver GT sport tonight and it looked good!

I've driven the GTI with DSG, I assume it feels pretty much the same in the GT?

                              Thanks again
