Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi all

I am looking at getting some after market rims for my golf and was wanting to know a couple of things

    1. How big can I go without modifiy guards 18" 19"??
    2. How wid can I go without modifiy guards 8" 8.5" 9" 10"??
3 What is the stud patten and offset??

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be great, I have modifiy alot of car over the last 5 years but never a Golf, and never in Australia (I am a Kiwi dont hold it againts me).

also if anyone could put me onto a good honest mag and tyre dealer around inner wast Sydney would be cool

    Thanks in advance

        i can help

        stud pattern: 5x112
offset: approx 50 depending on wheel width
width: i have 8.5" on 50 offset and theres almost no space between the wheel and strut and the rim sits right at the edge of the guards. from knowing that you can figure out what kind of width/offset you want.

check out the last pic in this thread http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=15847

also theres some TT wheels identical to mine on ebay for 650 right now

dealer for what type of wheels? you can get cheap heavy hunks of junk for cheap or you can get some really nice wheels but obviously you have to pay for what you get. if you want to do it on a budget keep an eye out on ebay for brands like BBS or you can order a set from tirerack.com but allow for about 4-500 shipping from them. BBS LM wheels would be the ultimate wheel really (same ones as on neil 99gti's car)

Also remember that any ONE item shipped into australia that costs, in total WITH shipping over $1000 attracts GST as import duty. Four wheels shipped in to you in seperate boxes will be added together if they arrive at about the same time. Personally, I'd investigate sending one each, to me and three of my friends. Really depends on postage for four boxes vs an extra 10% and delay at Aussie customs on our end. Tire rack etc certainly seem to be a well priced alternative, but there goes any local support if you order the wrong thing, they rub etc, so order carefully!
