At 2,500km, the oil warning light has come on in the R32. There's no fault with the warning and after checking the engine has definately used some oil. I appreciate the engine is new and all but is it usual for so much oil to be used within such relevatively few kms? My run in has been on the 'spirited' side, mostly on country runs and along the lines recommended by the motortuneusa site; lots of varied revs and loading up the engine. I'd be interested to hear if any other Mk V R32 owners have had the same experiences or if this is unusual and I ought to speak to the dealer about it...

R32 oil consumption

That certainly doesnt sound right.
Our Mk V R32 has done over 7000kms with no need to top up oil. We have mixed up our run-in with a good combination of sports driving and very minimal commuting, varying the revs as much as possible and not allowing it to lug.
According to the dealer (Austral..) it did not need any run-in as it was already doen at the factory, this was despite me pointing to the relevant section in the supplied R32 owners manual! whatever... I ended up following my standard run-in process.
The 3.2 makes a stack of torque at low revs and shouldnt need to be revved too hard, ours is DSG and i rarely run it in 'sport' mode.
One thing, did you check the oil level when the car was delivered? it may have actually been marginal on delivery. Did you buy your R32 from Austral in Brisbane?

The dealer told me to expect oil consumption in the first 15,000ks (GTI), and said to keep an eye on the level, and if top-up required just pop into the dealer and they will gladly top it up.
I guess I should check where the level is at the moment with about 150ks done.sigpic

As FJ Steve says, I did buy it in Perth. I didn't check the oil level on purchase - I'd probably look like a goose if I did. Anyway I called the dealer and asked if this was "normal". The service dept asked the dealer to ask me how old I was and how I had been driving it. I could see full well where this was going (FJ Steve, I'm sure he wasn't suggesting you can't hammer your R32 given you've got a few years on me!!) and I mentioned politely of course that given it's 15,000km until the first service, I hadn't expected to refill the oil after just 2,500km. Besides, its an R32 for chrisssakes and isn't wrapped in cotton wool - its driven. He agreed and asked me to bring it in. I'm inclined to ask them to drop the rest of the oil and replace with a fresh batch. Normally consumables wouldn't be covered by warranty, but I'll be asking them to cover the cost when I get to the dealer.
