Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

its vynil which is made to look and feel like a cheap grade of leather...hehe

some cars have a 100% leatherette interior. Mazda 3, 6 and RX8 also have leather options which consist of a large amount of leatherette (they advertise it though). The good stuff ts actually pretty hard to tell its fake too (apart from the obvious lack of leather imperfections like stretching and obvious wrinkles, sometimes even scars which look fantastic..makes you know you're really sitting on a dead anima's skin ) Only proper leather buffs will realise really.

nissan got into trouble with the Tiida Q and Ti when they first introduced them. Someone translated the specs incorrectly and thought the seats had leather edging..so into the advertising it went. For about 6 months every motoring journalist in australia was fooled by this leather until someone ripped the seat and discovered it was leatherette...nissan promptly changed their advertising and offered compensation to all the people who'd bought a Tiida Q or Ti!

I've read everywhere don't use any sort of leather cleaner on your seats. They'll give it that shiny worn out effect.

        Warm slightly soapy water!

I'd go so far as to say that just a wet warm rag would do the job quite OK.

There's plenty of leather conditioners which actually do a good job.

Funnily enough fabric cleaner also tends to leave fabric noticeably rougher than it really should be meant to!
