Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What to look out for in a 2nd hand GTI?

    Hi, Newbie here.

I'm interested in purchasing a 2nd GTI manual 05 or 06, with no options, and I'm wondering if there are any issues or problems that I should be on the lookout for?

    Thanks.

      Hi Newbie,
The Golf GTI is fundermentally a sound and reliable vehicle but it is sometimes let down by poor assembly/minor design faults. Most problems are minor in nature and rattles and minor electrical problems seem to be the most common. Check all electrical accessories and make sure the dual zone air conditioning functions OK as there have been some problems with this. Other than this I would just be going on whether the car has a complete service history and how well it presents. It is a great car to drive and a much more practical choice than most other 'sporty' cars. Good luck on your search, I am sure you will enjoy the GTI.
