Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • S3 Rear brakes on Mk5 GTI issues Help?

Hi everyone I currently have stock brakes on my 2008 MK5 GTI.

I got a set of rear discs from a Performance Pack GTI 40 year edition.

I also bought a set of S3 rear Calipers with the carrier so the rest of what I needed.

When fitting it all up I found that the pads from the performance pack gti were different to the S3 rear calipers so I had to buy new pads that fit the s3 style calipers.

Now the problem I have is that I put the discs on they fit but touched the heat shield so I pushed that back a little as it was only short by a few mm. Then when i tried to put the brake carrier onto the hub and over the disc I found that the carrier was touching the disc and wasn't even flush with the hub to mount it.

So either the Mk7 rear discs are a different to the s3 rears discs that fit the mk5 gti. I would assume that this is the case but I haven't been able to find anything that says what offsets the mk7 is compared to a mk5 or if its all the same.

Anyone else done this conversion and can shed some light please ??
