Hey guys, i'm in Perth and am interested in getting a brand new GTI but i'm not sure how much I should pay for one and what would be a good deal. Basically i'm after a 3 door, manual, Reflex Silver, cloth interior, sunroof. What should I expect to pay for this after all onroads etc. I was hoping to not spend more than 45k and will ditch the sunroof if need be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

yeah i recon anything under $45k is fair. but lets face it the dealers in WA are pretty arogant and have the whole take it or leave it attitude and they know their products will still walk right out the door.
oh and a favourite trick of a certain perth dealer is to rip out a sheet of paper showing how much they make on each car. with the GTI they recon they only make something tiny like a couple thousand. yerrr right

I think lots of dealers have figures (either on paper or on screen) that they show to customers as the "cost to the dealer" when negotiating down to nitty gritty prices. I am very skeptical that this figure represents the true cost to the dealer after all other arrangements have been taken into account (after factory support, rebates, bonuses, whatever they want to call it).
I think the true cost is a bit of "secret car dealer business" that they swear on their life (or at least their profits and income) to protect from the uninitiated (us buying customers).2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

Work it out based on the Corporate pricing, which is Base Car cost -10%, plus dealer delivery $995, plus extras at full price, + ORC
Then haggle as close to that as you can.
So for yours
Car 38490 -10% = 34641 + 995 = 35636 + sunroof 1890 = 37526 + ORC for WA (guessing here 1800 = 39326 drive away.
Go to the dealer with a price of $40,000 drive away and be prepared to go up a bit if needed, since you have a limited number of suppliers.sigpic
