Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You would install it yourself to save money. Same reason why you would mow your own lawn instead of a gardener or drive your own car rather then have a chauffeur.

The parrot is a pile of crap, it doesn't integrate properly into the car, it has a high failure rate and is an all round POS. The properly kit works properly with every system in the car, gives voice control, proper MFD integration, proper RNS510 integration, proper integration into canbus and is much more reliable.

Thanks Maverick. I haven't seen the VW Bluetooth (or the RNS5xx for that matter), that's why I'm asking.

The Parrot the dealer had fitted into my car initially didn't work and had to be replaced. It does allow voice dialling and works with the phone button on the steering wheel. It also mutes the radio during calls. What it doesn't support is caller ID display in the MFD, which would be nice. And the microphone looks a bit dodgey, stuck to the bottom of the dashboard frame...

Apart from that I can't think of much more I'd want from a Bluetooth phone kit.

      Cheers
      Steffen.

Here are some details on my install showing how well it integrates.

Quite impressive! Phone book access is definitely something worth having. I suppose some of the other functions (like touch screen dialling) are only available with the RNS satnav.

Does the factory Bluetooth kit require the RNS or will it coexist with the normal 8-speaker stereo (minus the touch screen functions of course)?

          Cheers
