Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I had mine done at the dealer. Sure you save a hundred or so bucks going down the road, but after what the car cost I just wanted to pick it up, drive away with no more to do. For what it's worth there's a tinter about 500m from VW Osb Pk and I believe that that's where they get the tint done.

I took the R32 to our local Tint-a-car shop across the road from home today.

Asked the guys very nicely about tinting the car, % etc.

Should have seen the look on the guy's face when I told him it was a 2008 R32. He nearly shat himself. Said it was a tough job...wasn't looking forward to it etc etc. I said, "thanks...you don't get the job."

FWIW...the dealer was after $675.00.....which is more than twice what I have been quoted. Although the guys at the dealership are nice enough to talk to, I am yet to see anything which convinces me they are beyond the usual unscrupulous act. I was told the car had been clay barred and the windows "stripped" back to remove transport dust etc, after I left the car with them for the day on Wednesday. I can assure you this was not done, despite them having the car for the day.

I refuse to be ripped off because,

        1. I can afford it because I have an R32
        2. I can afford it because of the suburb I live in
        3. I can afford it because I of my employment.

Sorry...I am not a tight arse, just believe that I should not be ripped off.

it is true golfs are a bitch to do, due to the back window being so curvy they have to mould the tint to the shape of the window which takes aBout half an hour on its own (i sat and watched my tint guy do my car)

I had exactly the same experience with my local dude. I didn't have to tell him he didn't get the job, he told me to take it elsewhere.
