Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Told them the battery cover lid won't stay shut (appears to be missing a catch?).
Told them how the s/c dropped out a couple of times (like tintos) but hasn't done it for ages.

Asked about recalls for TSI. She said there aren't any - only an ECU Campaign (a flash) known as '24M3'. I asked what it involved and she read from the VW sheet that it was an ECU flash to correct issues with the s/c while under cold running conditions.

She said it's not anything even resembling a recall. A recall is for either safety issues, or major catastrophic failures. The Campaign upgrades are running ECU changes that may or may not ever get done, depending on whether the owner goes to a genuine VW Service Centre or not. So they say.

Make of it what you will. If, however I've got an extra 25kW this time tomorrow, I'll post my observations
    Update:

    Unhappily no extra kW
They applied the 'Campaign' ECU upgrade. Details are that it prevents random supercharger 'events' from occurring. This is the brand new Campaign and will apply to all TSIs (apparently) if and when they get to their next service or if a s/c failure occurs first.

Too bad they couldn't find the rattle in the tail light
Have to go back again - this time I'll talk directly to the mechanic and not through a Customer Service Representitive

Got a brand new battery cover under warranty.

A nice touch: although the car was pretty clean (but the carpets were crappy), they did a really nice wash AND vacuum.

Your rattle in the tailgate will be more than likely the tailgate taillight len's.

It's a common problem where the internal plastic's separate & cause rattling.

I can feel what it is - it's a piece of spring wire - I just don't have long, thin fingers with magnets on their tips!

That's why the rattle comes & goes - as the wire bounces around and gets caught.

When is someone going to crack the ECU so we can get 160kw@engine like next years 1.4 model will have.

I am certain that this motor is already at 140kw@engine so 20kw should easily be in the ECU with exhaust change.

Have you tried using one of those telescopic magnetic pick up tools you can get them in Supercheap Auto and the like for a few dollars, it just might do the trick. They are a very handy tool to have.

Yeah, I tried that Russ - frikkin' thing is bigger than the hole I have to pull it through (the globe hole). It MAY come out if I can rotate it to one particular angle, but... after ages trying, I can't be f#cked trying any more! I spent way to long with my head upside down and my finger stuck in a quite sharp hole (hmm reminds me of a nasty old GF ).

That reminds me to get the magnet thingy out again on the weekend - I dropped a torx screw into the bowels of the centre console while fitting a TPMS switch.

Thanks for the tip though I thought I'd let VW get it out at the service. After all VW put it there!

                    Hi,

I have experienced a sore back, cuts and bruises, skinned knuckles and blood loss when working on cars, and the old head upside down and finger in a sharp hole routine sounds familiar as well, can't remember any old GF's feeling quite that way but you did bring back some memories By the sounds of it you would probably be best to let VW service get it out because if your anything like me, (although, I have mellowed quite a bit over the years) I would end up getting the $h!ts big time and probably only break something in the process, not to mention the psychological damage.......... (to the neighbours kids I mean) while I worked on improving my vocabulary, ahhhhhhhhhhh for f....ks sake aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh stupid f ....king thing, who's the f...wit who designed this, they should be f...king shot, etc......etc.... I'm sure you get the picture !!! Anyway it's time for my valium, bye for now

Mischa, what is your obsession with Italian women? I say let's hear it for the Swedish, and Finnish.
