  • ABS issues

So the last week or so randomly the tyre pressure, esp, steering and abs light will all come on. Took the car to (09 gti) my so called local euro specialist, he in a vague rushed description over the phone tells me no power going to the abs unit and says to take it to vw tells me as he is leaving for the day to pick my car up unlocked with the keys sitting in the drink holder parked on a main road. Not exactly happy with this service to say the least.

Anyway back to the issue, am i looking at a new abs module? if so has anyone else had the same issues? Money is tight praying for just about anything else than the module.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, was more looking for updated information, thanks guys

It needs scanning with VCDS first. Not a hurried conversation on the phone.

My suspicion is there's a blown fuse affecting all the systems listed.

Blown fuse would be a wonderful outcome, i actually have not checked the fuses near the battery yet, i checked the ones under the dash they are all fine, is it normal for vw to not have any spares?

It wasn't a conversation over the phone he scanned the car and came back to me with that
Just to clear up any confusion

No spares in the fuse box lid?

Never had a new one so don't know if they come equipped from the factory or not. I'd just nick one from something I didn't need. Like rear wipers?

The ones by the battery are more likely, there's less of them and they power multiple services.

Could it be that just the battery is on its way out?

Was just thinking as symptoms are very similar. ABS and power steering light tend to show up if the battery is weak and time for a new one.

If the engine is running the battery won't affect the operation of the electrics in the car.

Unless the alternator is dead or not putting out enough amps, but then the car would die shortly after all those warnings.

Given the OP says "tyre pressure, esp, steering and abs light" these are all related as they would be controlled from a common module.
But until a scan is performed it is just too hard to say.

                          Normally I would agree.

I did have one car in which the (rather large) amp for my stereo would cut out/wipers shudder/lights dim (to the bass) while driving.

I thought for sure it was the alternator as the voltage was below 12V with the engine runninv and the car started fine.

What actually happened was battery was a drawing massive loads from the alternator.

Once I replaced the battery car was fine again.

Had a couple now that needed a new fuse powerbox as the abs unit was getting low power(around 7v) so the unit would not power up.
