  • Door Lock & Airbag Fault

    Hi All,

I have recently just had two failures come up on my for my MKV GTI - They always seem to happen whilst I am on holidays and don't drive the car.

1 - Drivers Side In Seat Airbag fault - Won't clear and dealer thinks is the wiring under the seat.

2 - Passenger side door lock - Intermittent locking and unlocking. I already have a replacement from a wrecker and it just needs to be installed.

Does anyone do this independently, unfortunately with computers and tech I know everything - with cars not a lot - also don't own the tools.

I am also in the process of selling the car and so I don't want to spend 1000's on silly things like this.

    Thanks,

Airbag, yeah that's what I heard, replaced the plugs under both seats with screw connectors, no change, car still shows light. Door locks, I now know how to fix them. Pity you're in Melbourne and I'm in Adelaide. I'm a little reluctant to share how as I may be throwing away a good little business. Putting in a secondhand lock isn't a permanent fix. Those in Adelaide with non locking doors send me a pm.

For the airbag connector under the seat, you need to use Duraseal crimp connectors, which you then heat and shrink.

Passenger side latch modules are around $100 on eBay, from the UK new. However, I'd recommend someone who's done a few, to fit it. They're not always straight forward.

I've done the rear drivers side on my Octavia. Same as a Mk5. Don't use second hand its not worth it. I learnt the hard way.

Changing out the mechanism is not that hard. Make sure you purchase the rivets from VW first. There are videos on Youtube

Only rivets I can think of are for the speaker, which you can buy from Bunnings anyway.

aHHH ok must be different for my model of Octavia. The Panel that holds the window regulator is held on with rivits that have a really large head.

I think they went that way with the MK6 Golf.
