Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK5 GTI Race Car

    Hey guys,
Wanted to show you all our new race car that's currently in the build phase. My brother and I bought the car as a stat write off and had it repaired and it's now getting built into a Production Touring car which will be eligible for the State Championship, National Championship in Amchamps and the Bathurst 6 hour. Will compete in Class D against cars like the Toyota 86's and Honda Integra Type R's.

The MK5 will be joining my MK7 road car in the garage.

We have a page JJM Motorsport we have set up (won't let me tag it here) if you want to keep up to date and follow our progress. We are always on the lookout for sponsors too so if you know anybody who may be interested please point them our way.

Arriving this week will be our Yellowspeed Competition Coilovers as well as DBA T3 4000 series Rotors and Ferodo DS1.11 Endurance Pads ready for Wakefield Park and a Trackschool Trackday on the 17th for its first shakedown. I'll actually be a client instead of instructing for once!!

    Cheers,

    Josh.

      Hey guys,

We've made some progress before Trackschool this saturday.

Tow strap, seat, harness and we've raised the floor to match the bottom of the throttle pedal (this is a test fit with an old sheet of checker plate before we buy a new piece and do it properly).

              Hi All,

Sorry for the lack of posts, been a crazy end and start to '16/'17!

              Test day went amazingly well.

We fitted the Yellowspeed coilovers and changed out the brake fluid for DOT 5 racing fluid with the standard rotors and pads (which were almost new anyway). The test was all about doing a systems check and making sure the car ran smoothly without any problems (as the car hadn't been driven in anger since we bought it as a write off).

I was able to post a 1:13.2 on some old crappy tyres which squealed like hell with anymore than 5% lock on!! A pretty impressive time considering it is still all but a standard car.

Roll Cage will be getting installed next week and then we are very close to be able to get some proper testing under our belts.

                    Yep. New tyres a must!!

Your steering looks really light? Have you changed anything there?

We will have to run a control Hankook semi slick tyre, this was just an initial mechanical shakedown to see if there were any underlying issues with the car we bought. No point wearing out race tyres on that.

Nothing done to the steering, just the Coilovers installed with a bit of camber which would have chang d the geometry a bit.

                            Well done mate.

You going to run in Production cars? NSW pulls good grids and a good option other than IPRA.
                            AGI cage?

                              Yes Woody it's 3E Class D
Should kill everything in the class to be honest - you have the Kirkhams, Mini's and some Toyota GT86, just need to make sure they don't win by too much! (Class C is mainly Megane RS, so quite a step up, there is also a Scirocco R)
