  • VW Golf 2006 MK5 K1 Tdi DSG 2.0lt Downshifting Rattle/ Noisy Gear Change

    Hi All,

I know my issue has been mentioned on WC before but I cant find anywhere of people who have fixed or found out the cause of these symptoms I am experiencing.

Vehicle: 2006 Golf Tdi DSG 83000klm.

When I am slowing down to stop, I hear a slight metallic/ rattle or gear crunch from 3 to 2 then with a minor thud/ clunk into 1st.

VW has noted, this noise is common and my vehicle is in A1 working order.

Thanks to all who had replied.

I had similar noises to the "metallic/ rattle", especially on cold start up, thought it was DMF etc
Check the catalytic converter, mine was rolling around in the housing, replaced with a 3inch down pipe and it is silent.

I should rephrase the rattle sound, it is more like a slight gear crunch. Just to confirm, this only occurs when gearing down to a stop. If anyone has experienced the same issues please reply, I would like to find out what is causing this issue and could it potentially cause damage. Thanks.

Car has been back to VW and been checked over thoroughly, the noise I am experiencing is normal.
