  • Intermittent Bluetooth Problem

    Hi guys,

Picked up my Golf GTI (DSG, Leather, Bluetooth, iPod, Tint) two weeks ago and couldn't be happier - except - this weird intermittent phone issue: For no apparent reason, it will silently dial the last number used and (if unanswered at the other end) leave a noisy voicemail message?

In all other respects, the Bluetooth is great (compared to the original Holden kit in the VZ SS that my new German rollerskates replaced!) - despite the adverse comments about sound quality in some of the threads here.

I'm guessing that the call is initiated by the kit, but not processed through the sound system, as there is no interruption to radio / iPod operation, only call backs from friends and family asking why I called and wouldn't speak to them?

I'll take it back to the dealer (quite a distance unfortunately) but since the fault is very difficult / almost impossible to demonstrate, I was afraid that this could go on for some time without being resolved.

Any thoughts or experiences of something similar would be much appreciated!

On a lighter note, having come from a long line of HSV and other V8 GM cars, WHERE HAVE THESE GERMAN TURBO-SKATES BEEN ALL MY LIFE ?!

Dealer installed kit? I have the Parrot kit and certainly don't have the issue you describe. Sounds like a stalkers wet dream kit. I'd try to re pair the phone, otherwise silently call your dealer and leave noisy voicemails to book a service.

Thanks Purgi. Yeah great for the stalkers alright. It's a dealer fitted Parrot - spoke with the guys at Techaudio - they were helpful, but hadn't heard of this before - AND it hasn't done it again since Saturday, so it's a little hard to show them what I mean I'll just keep an eye on it and hope it doesn't end up embarrassing me ! Thanks again.

Unfortunately the parrot kit is rubbish and have a high failure rate because of issues like this. Something like each one is replaced on average twice because of faults.

And VW won't sell the far superior factory bluetooth that is available overseas in Australia that properly integrates into the car, offers much more functionality and is very reliable.

This is my bluetooth install of the factory kit which shows you how it integrates into the car. I'd be asking your dealer why they don't fit the proper bluetooth that VW have and instead fit the cheap parrot kit and sell it as a proper VW kit. The fault is not all with your dealer however but with VW Australia and it's association with parrot.

After speaking with both the dealer & Techaudio it was agreed to swap both the module & the harness. This seems to have fixed it (almost a week down the track).

I'd have to say that the Techaudio guys were very attentive (intermittent faults are the greatest PITA to diagnose / fix) and the dealer (McCarrols Waitara) couldn't have been more helpful.

As for the car - just keeps getting better & better - any time you find yourself making up excuses just to drive to the corner shop you know you're on a winner !

You weren't hitting the star button on your steering wheel, were you? This acts as a redial for the last person you called. Albeit, it does stop the music.

The star only mutes my stereo. I have to press and hold the phone button for a few seconds to redial - which I quite like, I'd hate to brush against a button and have it dial my phone.

                Parrot Bluetooth

                Hi All,

Just had the "Connects2 VW to Parrot Evolution" kit fitted by The Car Kit Company:

This website is for sale! thecarkitcompany.com.au is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, thecarkitcompany.com.au has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

Quite happy with the sound quality and connection and callers have been impressed with the sound at their end too...

And the best thing: $549 installed - as opposed to the $800 option thru the Dealer...

One problem experienced which I have fixed now and want to share, particularly if anyone else is experiencing this:

I was finding that each time my phone (Nokia E65) made a noise (key pad tones scrolling for phone numbers or thru messages, "warning" tones alerting me to the fact that the battery is now charged etc) the radio would mute for a few seconds (which p*ssed me off no end).

The user guides and troubleshooting on Parrots web site gave me no solutions.

So I created a new Profile on the phone (called "Car Kit" - yes I am very imaginative) and turned off all the tones other than incoming calls and messages. Then under my phone's Enhancement menu, I was able to force the "Bluetooth Handsfree" to choose the "Car Kit" profile whenever it connected.

I'm not sure if these options are available for other Nokia models, or in fact other phone makes, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Anyway I am a lot happier now. I can now go back to enjoying my new car.

Thanks. Always good to get another's hard thought out solution.

Another thing, which may effect bluetooth users, is the iPhone.
Many of the Car Kits manufacturers are stating that they are having problems with communication with the iPhone. I hear Apple are working on a new firmware to overcome the problem.
So, if you have an iPhone, and are thinking of a bluetooth kit, ask whether they are compatible.
