  • Timing belt & water pump. please help!

    Hi,

My car is a diesel 2008 pacific it's been well cared for and has had regular servicing. My mechanic has stated that the car is in great condition. It's just hit 120,000kms as it's costly service to do I held off doing at the suggested 109,000kms.

I've been quoted by the dealer $1250 for the belt to be changed along with the water filter.

I wanting to know when should you do your major service and replace the timing belt/ water filter? I've read various forums and I'm confused to when it should be changed.

    Please help!

      Water pump.

The timing belt needs to be done every 105,000klms or 7 years. Whichever comes first.

The water pump is recommended, as it's really easy to do once the old timing belt is removed, and is prone to failure. Cheap insurance.

Don't defer the timing belt any longer. It doesn't matter how well cared-for the car is, or how it's been driven or serviced. If the belt goes, in all likelihood there'll be extensive damage to the engine, costing many thousands to repair. It's simply not worth the risk considering the consequences.
