Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Clutch kit is about $300 & a days worth of pain to change it.

I'm sure the later models are much more painful financially.
Which equates to about 290.00 for the set....
I will not allow dealer to replace pads or disc rotors without me seeing it first. I don't truest them.... I have had a car for 10 years using gears and engine brakes and clutch didn't fail. Ended up selling it with same clutch on it.

My old man's rodeo has 150,000 kms on it and still has the original front and rear brake pads.

Diesel with lots of engine braking, or lots of highway kms?
        Nothing to see here...

I replaced the front pads on my Laser TX3 at 165,000Km, the back ones are still going at 185,000 (but they are due for replacement). I anticipate a lot, and back off the accelerator so I don't use the brakes as much as most people (and am very light on the pedal when I do use them). Manual gearbox, mostly round town running (in Canberra, so not so many lights as other cities).

No, Isuzu brakes are legendary for long life.

My auto Jackaroo has 150,000 ks now, and I changed the front pads recently, although they still had probably 30,000ks left. I also changed the rears because I got a set of new rear pads for nix, but the rears had probably 60,000ks left in them.

Rotor wear is minimal, the lip can be felt but only just.

Now that I'll be driving a GTI instead I'll definately be in for "brake replacement shock"

Just had the 30,000km service done at Penrith VW (Nepean Motor Group) and found that we still had 70% left in the brakes. Very happy with that given the amount of black powder that accumulates so quickly on the rims.

Amazed at how smooth the car runs after a service too
