  • 98 RON in a GTI

    Gday all

Just curious to know what the preferred fuel is for GTI owners

So far BP Ultimate is working for me or though I had to fill up in a hurry yesterday with Caltex? Vortex 98 - so far - seems good.

I've only had the car 3 weeks - 5 full tanks so far - yea yeah I know - give me a break it's a new car and I'm loving it. Already managed to be done for 20k over the limit.

So back to the thread - what's your favourite or recommended drop.

    cheers S

BP ultimate for me. Although it does hurt when you pay $1.76 like I did this week.

Not sure it makes too much difference but everyone I speak to recommends it. Definitely a difference in fuel economy between 95 and 98 though.

Generally, Vortex98 from our local independent servo, otherwise BP Ultimate if Vortex is unavailable.

That adds some more interest to the thread - What brand do you recommend, what octane, how big a loan did you take out to fill up and where were you when you pumped it.

My last fill - Vortex 98 @ $1.69/L Eighty Four friggin bucks worth at Floreat Forum, Perth WA.

I'm starting to go a bit out of my way for BP Ultimate. Last fill was @ 1.62 Brisbane.

I was using Caltex but have stopped using it, with no real evidence that BP is better, but in my head.

In WA all of the 98RON fuel comes from the BP Refinery at Kwinana. Use whichever you like, it's all the same.

Shell VPower (wont run on 95) on Tuesdays.
Last fill $1.549/litre. BP is just not worth the extra 5-10cents.
                    MK4 GTI - Sold
                    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
                    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

I usually stick to Caltex Vortex 98 or BP Ultimate 98.

I've found that Shell is more expensive than BP, especially after removing Optimax from the line up. Where are you getting cheap V-Power?

+2 it's all the same here!

Just get onto fuelwatch and figure out who is the cheapest on the day.

                            They are the same thing.

At the moment the volume on the 98 octane is not high enough to justify the cost of all suppliers setting up the plants to produce 98 so they share.

In NSW Vortex98 comes from the BP refinery
In QLD the BP98 comes from the Caltex refinery.
Similar sharing deal in Vic, but I can't remember which one is the supplier.

I usually fill up at BP, as i have a BP credit card which gives 5% rebate on fuel. Otherwise i would use caltex or mobil, as they are always a few c per litre cheaper than BP in my area.
