Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buying a R32 with rebuilt DSG

    Hey guys,
I've been looking into upgrading from my MK5 2.0FSI to an R32.
I've found a few with low kms on them and stumbled across one with a rebuilt gearbox.
Wondering if anyone has had one rebuilt on here and how it runs afterwards?

As I hear the DSG is a hell of a lot of money to throw at if something goes wrong I was thinking if its rebuilt I wouldn't have to worry about it as much.

The DSG boxes if not looked after can have issues, but these days they can be repaired & rebuilt at a "reasonable" cost. I use that term loosely.

If the box has been rebuilt properly it should last a long time if maintained, but you will want to check the receipts & see what work was actually done.
You should also probably look into which company did the work & make sure they are known for repairing DSG boxes.

Mine was rebuilt recently and works very well. Its very smooth on take offs and stops.

My golf is a GTI though but its the same box.

Drive it first and see if there's no problems.
