Mark 5 OBD2 port

Hi guys,

Silly question...
A friend bought an 06 golf Tdi


I have a VAG-COM hex-can cable... (Cheapy) using VCDS LITE.. the port seem to be totally different...
I thought they are standard across most cars/makes?

Do I need the micro-can instead ?

Any help will be appreciated

Pink port above the accelerator
Same connector thing for a decade or so
