  • DSG quirk or normal

I am wondering if my TDI DSG transmission has a problem or if it is behaving normally.

Often on gear changes from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th over, it feels like the clutch has a momentary slip after engaging the higher gear and the revs have built up to over 2300 or so.

I mentioned this to the service guys when I took it in for it's first service and they said it was normal. Does anybody else experience this or should I pursue it further?

    Hi Halfcoast,

Welcome to the forum! In almost 2 years of owning my Jetta, I've never experienced upshifts that were anything like you describe. On mine, upshifts are instantaneous with absolutely no interruption to the drive. Something is not right.

VW dealers are renowned for saying things are normal when they are not.

    Cheers

I am new to DSG and VW but +2 for me, I have not felt anything like that.

I sometimes here the gears clunk in a downshift but it doesn't feel bad.

See what they do when you tell them you will believe it if they demonstrate the same "characteristic" on 3 other DSG cars, right here, right now

Don't they advertise a 4/100th's of a second power transfer between the dual clutches? Don't know how they can say the way yours is behaving is "normal". I feel no loss in power regardless of what revs it changes at.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll make a visit to the service department and push the point more. It doesn't seem right to me.

i have the same issue. ive pushed this issue with my dealer and hope to get it fixed. i have no experience with the dsg gearbox, but if this is normal then frankly i think its a piece of ****. how is it normal that when you accelerating through the gears that you suddenly have a loss of power.

Hey, had a new GTI for a few weeks now, DSG also. And no, driving is smooth as, no 'slipping'. I think I read a similar thread just a while ago today reporting the same thing.

Ps guys I think it was advertised that the transition b/w gears is smooth. Maybe in a brochure but I can't remember...but yes def get it checked out...if they don't let you have it fixed again, are you able to ask for a manager to look into this?

                    Keep us posted.
