Can anyone help me with some info on this product?

What is the name of the hardware to laod the maps?

Do they have software to modify the maps?

    Has anyone seen/used the software?

Is it something a competent tuner could use?

As i'm thinking i would rather have a tuner i know and trust custom make me a map for Australian conditions and with our fuel.

    Has anyone had this done?

or we could organise a Collective purchase of the software and equipment and a Tuner can make a base map and load to each car and run on the dyno and make changes as necessary to suit each cars characteristics.

    Thanks.

I haven't got any info on the gear you have mentioned but I do have hardware capable of loading/flashing a variety of different ECUs used in VWs and Audis.

While I can understand that you want to have your car tuned 'for Australian conditions'. I don't think Australian conditions are that different to Europe/Africa and North American combined.

I do think you are underestimating the development put in by the current tuners in the market. APR have to be the biggest known of the tuners and they wouldn't be like that, if they were blowing cars up left right and centre.

There are people selling hardware and software but in a lot of cases you have no idea what you are buying and I think getting it wrong, would be far more costly than having an established non-Australian tuner flash your car.

One thing I do agree with is that Australian consumers are being stuck with prices that are much higher than they need to be. On the other side of the coin, buying into a tuning franchise isn't a cheap deal either.

Good luck if you go ahead.

Googled it now and down the bottom of this page is the pro kit that they say allows you to write your own mod files. I am not convinced that you would see value for money trying to write you own maps. Even if you are provided with something to get you going. At $100 an hour for dyno time, you are going to get through some money. There isn't a price for the kit either, have you asked how much it is?

The device you are talking about is also available from ChippedUK. Its called the ST3.
ChippedUK have put in extensive work creating a variety of maps for different vehicles.

I dont believe there is any problem in using a non-Australian flash tune. Were talking about european cars here anyway and like has already been mentioned our conditions are not really that much diffrent.

Personally i would prefer to use a European based tune anyway, my view is that they would obviously be working on alot more european cars over there than we are here.

Writing your own maps whilst it sounds like fun is probably not worth it. Alot of time is put into getting the maps right by all the tuners.

        I agree with logzy.

I use dyno tuners regularly on a race car, and one of them - Bell Garage in Granville - has a tuner who can tune the current VWs.

But by the time they develop a tune to the same level as the established tuners it will cost me a lot more than the ST3 I have ordered. $620 delivered with 2 maps is great value.

I will give my car a dyno run on BP98 when I get the ST3 and check all of the readings, so that i am satisfied they are safe.

In theory you could buy an ST3 and then get someone like Bell Garage to fine tune the map if you think it is necessary for safety, but I doubt they'll do much to it.
Even if you are planning on racing the car, with the map selection from Chipped UK, the money spent on the race/track maps would be money well spent IMO.

If you are worried, say, about running in continuous very high temps, then just go with the "economy" map, which lifts HP and torque over standard, and use the fast road maps when conditions aren't so extreme.

BTW you don't need the alientech to do the re-map if you get someone like Bell to do it for you, it's only used to switch between different maps.
