  • What to do... Tyre & Detailer assistance!

    Hi Guys,

Some of you may recall that when I took delivery of the GT (Red) I had found a lot of paint swirls and hard water staining on the car. Also the front left rim was scratched on the edge.

Well the owner of the dealer rang me today. I was very impressed by the involvement of himself and he was very helpful.

The dealer has agreed to replace the rim on the front and to give me the old one as a spare. He has also said he will sell me the tire at cost price. Not a bad offer considering all they really needed to do was paint the rim.

He has also said that he would reimburse me the cost of a reasonable detail for removing the swirl marks and spots.

I did however agree not to have the small blemish on the bonnet and A pillar resprayed as I did not want to go through the hassle of respraying as this could cause more concern. The marks are tiny!

    So now the question....

I am planning on keeping the car for at least one tire change and am thinking about what I should do with the new spare. Ie should I put on a new Conti... Then just change over 3 conti's when it comes time to replace the tires. Or I was thinking of something like a michelin pilot sport as I have heard very good things and they are cheaper... What do you guys think?

Also does anyone know a good detailer who specializes in removing swirl and spot marks. I do not really want to go down the line of a hard cut and polish not on a car so new.

The 2nd one use the polish I currently use. And so far I have found the prices to be around $350 mark. I have not had a car detailed for along time as I do it myself, do you think this is reasonable?

    Cheers guys,

    Andrew

i had my car fully detailed by them after i ran over a can of spray paint and it exploded over the side of my car!

my car looks better than new and they did a great price for me too!
the guys there are very friendly knowledgeable and i cant recommend them any more. they do all the work for Mercedes dealer West Point Star and they use Swissol products.
they also will drop you home and drop the car back to you at the end of the day.

with my car they just did a very light polish using a clay bar.

their current location may look a bit low rent but dont let that deter you. they have a very extensive high profile client list and their work speaks for themselves. theyre also one of the cheapest places in town.

talk to Alain and tell him Mark with the black GTI sent you.

I'd get another new conti on the spare rim and rotate all 5 tyres through until they wear out. That gives you a full size spare (and a lumpy boot floor if you carry it around in the car). It also gives you 25% more Kms until you have to buy new tyres, and means you can buy whatever brand you want then.

Remember tyres go "off" even when they aren't being used (I think the "rubber" in the tread hardens over time or something), so you shouldn't keep them for years without being used (of course if you are the sort of driver who wears out a set of front tyres in 10,000Km then that piece of advice is totally irelevant )
