  • Longevity of a MK5 Golf

    I love my golf's.
Between my wife and I , we have had 5 over about 8 years.

I recently ran across this gumtree ad and though it was worth sharing.
It demonstrates how well these little pocket rockets are made and with the right care - will keep on going.

At time of posting, this 2007 1.9L TDI has clocked 380,000kms. Unbelievable amount of miles. Still going strong.

Note: This is not my car and i do not know the owner.

There's a VW Vortex thread on Mk5 GTIs mileage - ~200,000 miles (ie. not kms) seems reasonably common without major engine work. There's one on there at high 300,000 miles without any work!

I hope mine can do another 200,000 klm's!
185,000 klm's on my 2L TDI and it's still going well.
Replaced flap valve, alternator pulley and a cracked water junction and that is about it touch wood.
Service it myself every 10,000 to 15,000.
I love my TDI that much that I will drive it till it's dead.
