  • MJ V climate control/air-con issue

    Hi all,
Have had my mark V golf GTI for six years, and in the last year or two I have had issues with the air conditioning system intermittently not working. I can't seem to work out a pattern (i.e. When it's too hot it doesn't work, etc), it just stops working for some reason and will then kick in either later in the day or the next time I use my car. When it does kick back in, however, it goes back to being as cold as it usually is?? I'm thinking it must be a faulty sensor? Has anybody else experienced this issue and can shed some light for me before I take it to my mechanic?
    Thanks in advance

I had a problem where mine would be working fine and then stop working (blowing air out) and then it would start blowing hot air (heater was working).
What I found was when this was happening was that the cabin temp sensor was tripping out and making the CC think that the temperature in the cabin was lower then it was.
So cabin temp was really around 26deg but the sensor was reading around 16deg.
The sensor is the little black dot in the middle of the off button.
When I figured this out I would open the secret menu and go to the cabin temp setting, put my finger on the temp sensor and wiggle it.
And as I did this I could watch the cabin temperature grow and get to the correct temp and let the cc work the way it should.
I believe there was a loose connection in the sensor making it read wrong.
I ended up replacing the controls an this fixed it.
    It's worth looking into.
And I hope I have explained this in a way you can understand.
Below is a link with how to get to the secret menu and the setting for cabin temp.

My MKV GTI did a similar thing. It started off as an intermittent issue, but eventually my air con stopped working all together. Now it just blows hot air only. I have had it looked at and its been diagnosed as a faulty compressor which is very common on all years of the MKV and very expensive to fix, I've had quotes range from 1.5-3k
