  • FK Coilovers on MK5 thoughts?

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking of buying FK Coilovers for my MK5.
Was wondering if anyone is running on them and how decent the quality is?

Heard they are a good buy for the price.

I've heard the same, great value for what you pay.

I've had mine on for about a year and love them. No complaints, and for about $500au delivered you can't go wrong.

That's awesome! I think I'm going to get them.
Hopefully they aren't to hard to install myself

Install is pretty straight forward...there are HEAPS of DIY threads on Vortex and other forums. Get a good set of spring compressors for the front to get the spring pulled in nice a tight so you can angle it out from the top mount. Also, the cup which holds the shock to the hub needs to be spread to get the shock out...this can be a bit frustrating...use a large flat screw driver or a "specialty tool" to doit.

The rears are a cake walk...take you time and it should be all good...

Ride quality is noticeably harsher... need to slow down more on speed humps and potholes now.

It's something I can live with since it's a weekend car but not sure if others can who drive it daily.

Thanks for all the info guys!
Also for the rear set up do you guys have the perch resting on the bottom on the control arm or on the top of the spring against the body?

I've heard of people doing it either way but not sure whats really the correct way if any..

Also does anyone on here know what size strut the FSI 2.0 model is? 50mm or 55mm?
Or know a way of checking.. Thanks

Mine was/is 55mm. You can tell by checking your front brake caliper - if it has a particular marking on it, it's the 50mm. I can't recall the specifics off the top of my head but that should be enough for you to go on / search for. But chances are it's 55mm.

Whats the ride comfort on them like? We use our Jetta as a family car and dont want them to be too stiff.

I love mine but don't recommend them on a family car... not very comfortable at all!
