    I own a 2.0 ( 103kw ) TDI. Golf
Drove the 1.9 in a Polo prior to purchase.

No comparison in a driving sense, the 2.0 offers more bounce per ounce and literally flies up hills.

Economy figures quoted don't mean a thing, even by way of comparison.
My driving is up hill and down dale. With a little verve added real world consumption is 6.8 litres/100ks. On a whiff of throttle with plenty of concentration to be economical consumption is 6.0 litres/100ks.

The onboard fuel computer thingo would suggest my fuel consumption average to be less than 5.4 litres/100ks when real consumption is 6.8litres/100ks. More than a little optimistic....

At $1.85 per litre, this represents a saving of approx. $10 per tank.
    Give me verve any day

Strewth, got off the track there. Anyway, the 2.0 litre TDI is a better thing, IMHO. Only you can decide if the extra $ is worth the price of admission.
That said, a 1.9 can be chipped, for less than the price difference and given similar power and torque outputs.
The 2.0 TDI when chipped gives approx. 125kw when chipped. It's a lot of fun.......no real difference in consumption.

Consumption aside The 2.0 will give you better resale value than the 1.9. It is old hat now.

The dealer told me this almost a year ago. I am surprised they still sell it

What type of driving u do?

I rarely get over 80km/h and out of 5th unless i get out of the city, which is a shame.
Yes i'm the same. I really dont do the diesel justice and only drive far enough to work to get the oiler up to full temp (just). So probably 10k's tops to work. But i just love the torque.
This wouldn't be doing my economy any good, with a lot of stop starting and max speed of 55-60k's. Thats until the weekend comes round
If something isnt done about this rubbish diesel price soon i may consider selling. I mean its a nice car but this fuel price is rubbish. Put a full tank in 2 nights ago and cost me $94!!!!!!! Like i said, rubbish.

Anyone interested in a moddified new GT oiler????
        Cheers,
        Jamie

Damn! Just bought a new TDI DSG Pacific today lol

I bought the TDI 2.0 just it was just so much more fun to drive than the 2.0 petrol. Fuel economy didn't even factor into it. Torque & DSG & longevity.

I test drove a 1.9 TDI Golf (manual) and thought it was a really nice, well balanced car. But I went for a Jetta because I needed the extra space and there was no 1.9 TDI option.

The 2.0 TDI is an absolute cracker but I'm sure I could have lived happily with the 1.9.

Yeah, my plan has always been to keep this car a year if even that and turn it over again. combination of factors that i hope work out. hopefully diesel prices dont make it hard to sell though. seriously thinking of an r32 next. in between times i have to buy a bike. i got my helmet back yesterday (warrantly repair) so now im god to go. just need good tax return and its time to go shopping.

Yeah, I understand, but sorry to hear people are starting to regret the oiler.
Personally I don't see normal fuel becomming any less expensive, and whilst a tank does indeed now cost about $90, you still get 800kms out of it.

Good luck getting that economy out of the very horny, but somewhat thristy R32!

Personally my long term game plan in 100% biodiesel. I'm currently learning all I can about it.

Im not regretting it one bit, love the car, having done the sums though, financially it may be better for me to get a car with a higher standard spec as it attracts more corporate discount with less extras. My intention is to keep the cars short term (ie a year or maybe less) and try out the different versions. I would rather a small amount (if any) each year than having to either take a hit every 3 or 4 years. I dont do finance so that for me is not a viable option.

It may be a bit of a gamble, but looking at the depreciation figures and what cars are going for on carsales i should get reasonably close to what i paid for the car if i sell in this timeframe. Not having to worry about paying out a finance company early makes it a tad easier.
