  • What difference is there between MY07 & MY08 GTI's ?

Interested to know as i've heard the MFD is a little different. Also how do you tell whether is an MY08 or MY07 is it basically anything past 01/08 is classed as MY08?

    Thanks

The build date for the new model year is generally end of August eah year (from memory) - so an MY 08 model could have been built 09/2007.

Obviously dont confuse this date with the Australian compliance date!

Not sure on the differences, I'm sure someone will be able to fill you in there.

But MY08 refers to a spec, rather than the year of manufacture. They actually started making MY08 before 01/01/08, so it's possible to have a car built in (latish) 2007 which is actually an MY08 spec. Subaru do the same thing, and I'm sure there are other manufacturers who work like this too.

There's some (small I'd say, but it's there) value when it comes to resale time to having an MY08 built/complianced in 2008, though I couldn't put a figure to that value.

I think Guy means an MY08 could have been built 09/2007. A car built 09/2008 would potentially be an MY09 spec.
      Nothing to see here...

If i'm not mistaken, MY08 Golfs have mp3 capable cd players while the MY07's don't

          Afaik, that's the only difference.

            Isn't the engine different?

            07 2.0TFSI uses timing belt
            08 2.0TSI uses timing chain

Also some other adjustments made to engine but can't remeber

TFSI name is dropped and TSI is adopted.

Saw a 2.0 TSI Jetta at Liverpool.

            These may help

i think apart from the MP3 capability, you get silver buttons on the player too...
Also, I believe MY08 has different steering wheel buttons - MY07 and prior looks like a one piece for all buttons on each side and MY08 has individual buttons...

(part of cost saving strategies towards end of production cycle)

Thats more the "09" version that they have started swapping the engines over in - a half year "facelift" or upgrade is pretty common too.

In my experience silver buttons meant made in Germany, look at 3doors or R32's of any age.

MY08 gets silver Radio buttons regardless of country of origin.

MY08 Gets full MDF which is handy to change settings.

MY08 Also has MP3 capable 6 stacker (GTI)

MY08 has different steering wheel buttons.

Cant think of anything else sorry.

Just the way they badge the Jetta - only one 2.0 turbo motor foor us at the moment - the new one won't be far away though.
