  • Paint issues?

    Hi,

Picked up the Gti (new) today drove back home to Newcastle and gave the car a quick once over.

I noticed several problems with the paint ie: not surface (Clear coat) but actual problems with the paint (Colour) itself.

What should i do the belmishes are quite noticable, have i any legal rights ie: Warranty or Consumer?

    Thanks.

Talk to the dealer you bought it from, that would be the first logical step. If there's a paint concern, then VGA have an obligation to repair it under warranty.

      Thanks.

I didn't want the fact that maybe i should have picked up the problem on pre inspection or something.

Some people have mentioned to me i should be demanding a replacement car as the "FIX" for the current problem would be a respray of the panels that are affected. Then they said it would have to be done right ie: Colour matching and also paint thickness as if i ever sold the car, a pre-inspection would pick it up.

My question is, should i demand a new car as the car is a week old and the problems should have been picked up by the dealer or VW before it was sold to me and i am being disadvantaged by going through the warranty avenue.

        Thanks.

demanding a new car would be silly. there are sprayers out there who can do a better job than from the factory if it really comes to that. dont take irrational steps just make sure its fixed properly. if you're in sydney i can hook you up with an amazing sprayer.

My wife had the front quarter, bumper and bonnet resprayed after a bingle, i would say it is better than factory (United Gray Trendline) no issues with colour matching whatsoever.

Also first point of call is always the dealer to see what they can do to rectify. Is it like one panel or all of them. I forgot to ask

The bonnet a few places and spots on other panels. It's like patches as big as your fingernail where no metalic has been applied and on a Graphite Blue it stands out.

This is common. and it is more common on Audis.

I know of many people who had paint issues. 1 of them had a massive fight with Audi Melbourne to rectify the paint issue on their Audi 4wd that had blemishes all over it because the detailer before pick up botched the buffer job. 1 year later, its still continuing....

The other was an Audi TT white, which has been rectified. Some scratches on the door panel which was resprayed.

First step is to go back to dealer for a respray or fix. Then next steps apply...

I'd definately be heading back to the dealer on that one, if they want to fix it thats fine but make sure you get an R32/R36/R50 as a courtesy car . It may also be worth getting some advice from a reputable painter beforehand as to what a possible cause or fix may entail and so the dealer can't bluff you as is sometimes the case.

                    Keep us posted

                      UPDATE:

Took the car to the dealers (VW) pre delivery dept (not the dealer i purchased it from as they are 200Kms away) They said the car has iron filings due to transportation which have gone rusty etc. They suggested i have the car clay barred and polished/waxed.

My question is, should i contact VW and say i will have that done but they foot the bill as it should have been dobe before i picked up the car?

                      Thanks.

On my old GTI had major paint blemish that took certain light to see. Took about a month to notice. Took it back to VW and they had front quarter resprayed and was perfect. Gave me car for the week and was all very easy and no hassles.

R32 is here and sounds awesome, loving the throttle blips on the down changes.
