  • Sound in engine bay after MY08 GTI is turned off

Hey guys just wondering whether anyone elses MY08 GTI has a sort of electric motor sound when you turn the car off.

After i turn the car off i opened the bonnet and can hear like an electric motor sound on the left side of the engine, i was thinking maybe an electric oil pump or something to keep the oil circulating.

I couldnt find anything in the manual, and before i go back to the dealership to see if its a problem i thought i would see if anyone else has the same thing and knows what it is.

    cheers.

a lot of VWs have a coolant pump that keeps running for a while after you switch off if the coolant temp has hit a certain level. Its probly just something like that

Yeah I get the same noise, I thought it was coolant or an auxiliary fan. Pretty sure it is to bring the temperature to a better level.

My caddy does that too. Sounds like its coming from the head.

My thoughts are that it is the variable cam timing servo sending itself to a home position.

        Absolutely nothing to worry about..

Yes, there is an auxillary electric water pump, which helps prevent carbon build-up on the turbine shaft of the turbo. It'll usually run for about 10-15 mins after the engine is switched off. Brilliant German engineering, btw.
