Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Servicing for the VW Jetta MK5

    Hey guys
as you guys know i recently bought a Jetta 2.0 TFSI.

Now when I picked it up, I saw a sticker on the top right hand corner which told me that my next service (rather, first service) was due at 15,000kms. Is this correct? Because I came from a Honda and Honda (as with most Japanese cars) do their first servicing when the car reaches 1000kms, then 10,000km, 20,000kms, etc

Is 15,000kms really the first service?

also, ive read on golfmkv.com that some pple have had their oil changed at 7000kms... now I use to change my oil every 5000kms on my old Honda Accord Euro.....would it be advisable to do the same? Because I dont think I can wait till my first servicing to have my oil changed

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome Stephen,
VGA wouldn't say 15000 if it needed to be done any earlier. Keep in mind the engine is bedding in for a little while so an oil change wont hurt at 7500 (I did one on the diesel then), but it also depends how and where you drive it. "Normal" driving ...15000 is ok.

15000 kilometers is absorlutely fine,I have had 4 Volkswagens, and they seem to get better and loosten up with age and a bit of mileage.
How does the Jetta compare to the Accord Euro.
I almost bought one,but deceided to rather get the Jetta.
Am happy,as the Jetta is very fresh, the Honda is about to be replaced soon.

good choice going the jetta though... i've just recently traded my accord euro for a GTI and am glad i've done it (now waiting for the arrival of my rabbit).. accord euro is ok for what it is, but its just not as refined as a vdub, and for the money you get more options in a vdub when you compare the two!

The Accord Euro was a great car no doubt about it. I loved that car. Practical, luxury, and back then it was quite a head turner. Fun drive too and because its a Honda, its reliable and the engine revved quite hard...

theyre both very good cars. Only thing I didn't like about VW when buying my jetta was that nearly everything was an optional extra... from leather seats to HID's.....the euro had a base and a luxury model and with the luxury you got a sunroof, HID's, leather and foglights included....

but im nitpicking really, as I'm quite happy with the Jetta...

Although I think I might change my oil at 7500kms.....just to give myself peace of mind....
