  • Just collected my new Golf GT today, but...

    Hi all,

I have just become another proud GOLF owner.

Went to the dealership early this morning and saw the car at the front next to a personalized greeting letter...

However, I kind of knew it would not last. 3 minutes into the conversation with the dealer, I was told that they only had one set of keys. They somehow misplaced the other set. However, the dealer told me (and I've got it in writing too) that they have ordered another set and I would have to drive my car back to the dealership within 3 weeks to have the keys re-programmed.

Question to all: I found this reasonable. Do you find this reasonable too?

Also, I inspected the car and found that the 3rd brake light did not work. The dealer drove it in to the workshop and it was repaired in less than 10 minutes. Apparently, the connection was loose.

Question to all: Is this common?

Lastly, there was about 16 kilometers already clocked up on the car. This should be ok for a new car, right?

Anyway, I have driven it for quite a bit and am loving it!!!

Thanks for the assurance, mate! After some horror stories I heard about dealers, just wanted to be sure I got a fair outcome.

I wouldn't be too happy about the keys.

Brake light seems fine especially since it was fixed on the spot.

16km is pretty normal, i think mine was around 18km.

        Did you get anything else?

I was not too happy too, but I could live with it. The dealer did attempt to make it up for it. Also, I had to get the deal done today, as my trade-in car's rego expired tomorrow. So, it meant me spending another $700 thereabouts to keep my trade-in for another week, and insurance, etc, etc.

I just hope that I won't regret this own the track...

Remember the good old Aussie saying, "she'll be right mate"!

It won't be a problem, the dealer will get another key for you and the problems will soon be forgotten. Enjoy your new car.

              Cheers

I picked up my GTI this morning havent had a thing wrong with it yet, thats a bit unlucky about the key though. My dealship said it was $600 for another to be cut, the only thing im annoyed with is i only got two keys and no valet key or anything! wouldve thought they may have given a valet key or a spare without the flip out thingo

just dont lose the key before they give you another one or you'll be up the creek

Relax my friend, 16k's is a GOOD deal. Remember the car has to be driven on and off transport in various countries, road tested, driven around dealerships etc, and it's actually pretty rare to get a car with less than 20 on the clock.

Minor problems my man, just make sure you don't baby it OK. ENJOY it, it's actually the best thing you can do for it!

Lucky bugger, my caddy had 24 on it when i picked it up. I'm ringing the dealership to complain...
