  • Difference in VW GTI 2005-2007 models?

    Hey Gang,

Currently got a MKIV GTI and looking to get a MKV. I'm looking second hand and am wondering if there is any difference between the 2005/2006 models and the 2007 models?

Any difference in interior, or features etc?

Also redbook says 2007 model should cost aruond $32K-$34K but on carsales they are all about $38K?

I want a white manual with lw km and still under factory warranty. How much should I be paying? If someone is asking $38K is that way over? Becuase 2005 models are closer to $30K so the extra 8 grand seems like a lot for something 2 years only newer.

I know some have leather, sunroof etc but still, $8000 more?

    Wjat do you think?

Dials on AC Unit/Radio are slightly different, Instrument Cluster is slightly different, 2005 DSG Cars have cut outs in front grill, maybe 2006+ have mp3 compatible players....thats all i can think of, Im sure there is more though.

There doesnt seem to be that many 2005's around for sale (actually not many around at all!!) but i reckon they would be worth below 30 now depending on kms? 2007s maybe mid 30's....i guess how many kms is a big thing.

They are starting to get out of Factory Warranty now, mine has ended.

Pricing seems to be a bit of an unknown, 2nd hand prices still seem to be "good" but considering a lot of the GTI new drive-away prices would have been $45K or more, it does not seem unreasonable for high 30's.

As for extras, have a look at the price of extras: DSG, sunroof, leather, sat-nav are all pretty expensive to add to a car so you will be paying for it, even if it is 2nd hand.

In summary, just because it is a used car, does not mean the pricing should be a steal, if you can save $7,000 for a one year old car, I wouldn't sneeze at it. As for a 2005 vs 2007 model, 2 years difference in depreciation, remainder of warranty, and possible high kms would easily make the 2007 more expensive.

1st rule of redbook is never trust redbook prices
2nd rule of redbook is it only exists so dealers can shaft you on your trade in price

There are some minor differences between the earlier and later models. Earlier models had a slightly higher compression ratio (amongst perhaps other things) making for a slightly different drive. The later cars were also subject to a few cost cutting exercises, such as no active head restraints.
