  • Buying wheels and questionable tyres

I'm looking at a set of mk7 gti wheels for my mk5 jetta which is at standard height, they are a +35 offset and the tyre size is 215/35/19 is this too big?

I think I would prefer 18's I think but these are so cheap that I have to at least consider them!

They also have "fullway" tyres on them which sound a little dodgy.... Has anyone had any experience with these?
Is my life worth more than cheap tyres?

    Cheers!

    cheaper end tyres.
load rating will be low on that size rubber if thats an issue.
going by the tyre size and offset id assume fake wheels

I think they've got an 85w load rating, is that something to worry about?

He's claiming that the wheels are genuine... They are this style

215 is more of an asian market tyre size. Euro cars usually have a 225. I would tend to agree with dylan8.

If they are OEM wheels, they should have the maker stamped/cast into the back of the spokes, like ROH, Ronal, BBS etc. They should be european made if they are OEM.

        If they are cheap, then they are probably knockoffs - i.e. 19x8.0 Style5436 5/112 P45 | Style By V | Tempe Tyres

if the rash in photo 1 is common to all 4 then they'd want to be really cheap - like $200-$300

You didn't say what width they are. Assuming they are 8" there might be a bit of excessive poke (3-6mm).

I told him that the offset should be +51 if they are genuine and he's now telling me that he's not sure so I've told him to look at the stamp on the back and get back to me so we'll see how that goes.

The tyres are 215 wide but I'm still trying to find out how wide the wheels are

Hi mate, based on the information for off set 35 if the wheels is 5x112 and the width of the wheels would be 8.5inch and for mk5 the tyre sizes should be 225/35/19 with the load of 91. I know some other people's putting 235/35/19 but it will rub the guard if under load. Unless you have modify the suspension setting to cater the width.

19s are horrible on the road and split the side wall way too easy on potholes.Repro wheels are also rubbish, got one here with 7 cracks in the inner rim so obviously wont hold air.Always go factory or known brand.
