  • How much to pay for Pacific 08 TDI DSG?

    Hi all,

Just early times so far (I wasn't there - had to play soccer) but the dealer was throwing around on-road costs of $4000, on top of the $34,790 that the car is for a drive-away of $39K! Don't know who's leg he was pulling there.

Was hoping to be looking at a drive-away figure in the 35-36K range - Is this unreasonable?

Some though of others with the similarly positioned Comfortline would be great!

At the moment the choice is looking like being between the Golf and the Subaru Impreza RS which can be had (in auto - grrr!) for under $33 drive away.

    As always,
    Cheers!

Thanks Steve. After checking that thread out $35,000 shouldn't be impossible for the Golf with no options.

I got my TDI 08 spec/07 build Comfortline with Rear Parking Sensors, ESP, Metallic Paint and Foglights for $35,250. That was about $2k of extras.

Aren't Pacific's meant to be the same price as the comfortline? Hence the free extras advertisment?

With no options aim for $35,000 and ring around each dealer until someone meets your price.

Sorry if this sounds like I am blowing my own trumpet but when I did this the dealer I bought from asked me if I was in sales and congratulated me on how well I talked them down. It was weird but it just came down to being given good advice.

$2500 off list without even asking

I got $2500 off list on a new Pacific / Comfortline (my choice) with a sunroof without even asking.

I reckon there's room to move there. I'm still in the process & I'll post the result here.

OK, what did you end up getting it for and where from??

I am being quoted $38k for Pacific TDI DSG metallic paint at Chatswood (vehicle in stock), same price but with parking sensors as well in Maitland
                (vehicle to be sourced.

What should I be able to get them down to??

                cheers

List for that (from a sheet I got from them recently) is $38,761 On The Road ($34,790 before ORC). Parking Sensors are $790, Metallic paint (any colour that's not white) is $690.

10% off is not too ambitious a benchmark, I reckon. They told me about a special (maybe just finished) - Free dealer deliver & stamp duty that "didn't include diesels". The Hell it doesn't!!!! If you wanna shift that car right there then here's my money - I dare you to say 'no'.

I looked at a used car the other day for $30k and we got them down to $25k with my '94 Calais as a trade-in , 2 new tyres and the 60k service ($1100+) thrown in. It wasn't a Volks dealer so Im not keen but they rang me 3 times chasing the sale.

It's a game of strategy and it takes time. Take your time and take no prisoners - they don't. But, of course, don't be rude - they're people too & mostly helpful, I have found. They also have to make a buck, jst like the rest of us.

Show (almost) no mercy & be prepared to walk away.

I paid 37k on the road for a manual TDi Pacific with leather, metallic paint and no other options. This did not include fleet discount and was not part of any special promotion.
Given that there's a $2,300 price difference between manual and DSG and that leather is a $2,990 option, parking sensors are $790(if genuine). I reckon you should be looking closer to $37k on the road.

A couple of hours of silence and then a call back has $36500 OTR without parking sensors, (vehicle is in stock) from Chatswood, so I'll see if the Maitland guy wants the deal (match that price with sensors and supply within 2 weeks) and it's a game of wait and see...

I am working away from home so all has been done by phone so far.

My preferred option (carbroker.com.au) came up with $38300 for the reserve price for a reverse auction, and so that is a bit disappointing. Does anyone have any recent experience with them to say how far down the reverse auction is likely to go? Not likely to go down $2k?

                        carbroker no good

i find carbroker.com.au to be totally useless.. take long time to reply to messages and the starting auction price was way too high.

fleetdiscount.com.au was not too bad, at the end i found the best price myself by phoning around and negotiating the best price i was willing to pay.

                          Fleet discount worth about $2k

I got a Pacific TDI DSG in Metallic Silver with Sunroof for $36k OTR. 1st & Only quote - next dealer said to go back & buy it!

I'd have paid $38k OTR without the fleet discount.

I paid $35k for my Comfortline TDI DSG... metallic paint, boot liner, mats, full tank.

Not a great deal (didn't get sunroof, ESP, reverse parking, etc) but OK I guess.
