    Hi all,

    received this quote today:
MODEL VW Golf GTI 5 Door DSG

    LIST PRICE $42,290.00
    DEALER CHARGE $2,995.00
    OPTIONS $-
    Metallic Paint $690.00
    Sunroof $1,890.00
    Leather $2,990.00

Total excluding on road costs $50,855.00

    DISCOUNT

    TOTAL inclusive of GST $50,855.00

SUBTOTAL FOR STAMP DUTY ONLY $50,900.00

    Stamp Duty $1,645.00
    Registration $338.00
    CTP $333.00
    $2,316.00

    TOTAL $53,171.00

I have a price list that i got from a dealer in late FEB and it has Dealer Del @ $1995.00.

Disregarding Corporate/Fleet discount of 10% which VW give, what kind of price reduction should i be looking at off the dealer? The dealer has 2 cars in stock with these options. Do VW dealers even negotiate? or because the car is in demand they don't have to?

I decided to go new as the price people are wanting for secondhand cars is absurd, wether they get the price or not is a different story, but i never bothered trying with any. As i think if they beleive a second hand car with 30,000kms is worth the same as a new one then i'll let them go.

    Thanks.

Wow, thats expensive, have a look a the thread "What did u pay for your golf/jetta?"

can do way beter than that, esp if they have spec u want on the floor and its a week off then end of a month and new car sales are down 8%

Last march, when the dealers had a sale on i got a 3 door manual with no options for $41k drive away.

That made it $2500 for rego, stamp duty and dealer delivery.
They did seem to be more interested in negotiating on cars that were on the boat than those on the lot.

With DSG etc and your other options you should be able to get it down to just over $50K

They should be advertising their end of financial year sales any time now, so you could hold off until you here them advertise and then make an offer of 50k and see what they say.

Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

The corporate discount is given by VW? so i should bargain for the best price i can, then get the 10%?

or should i let it be known up front that i am entitled?

        Thanks.

I've been in the market for a GTI too and have been scouting around for prices. I recently saw a brand new Black Magic GTI 5 Door DSG with leather seats and sunroof going for $47,688 (drive-away).

Fleet is 10% off List price. no point negotiating on that, but try to get some off extras too.

Might be worth using a broker to find u the best price if u know exactly what spec u want. discountnewcars.com.au is one that springs to mind and i was called by a dealer the following day. There is an ocean on info in the other thread though.

linked for simplicity, its now 12 pages so most questions will have already been covered.

If you're entitled to Corporate Program, just get that as the dealer delivery is also dropped in price. I'd be asking for some free caps, keyring, etc some freebies and push for the freebies.

There should be a financial year sale soon probably in June to end at 30 June.

Some brokers are good some are bad. If youre a good negotiater no point for brokers. You can get a better price without them.

Ive used betterdeal.com.au to get a price and then went and haggled the price down myself.

The basic formula is car price, all extras, discount of 10% (some places will give you corporate discount even if youre not entitled), then add all the taxes and duties and you'll get a ball park figure.

If theres a car at the holding yard and you like the specs, theyll be more likely to do a good sale.

              Good Luck

                  Selling my Gti

                  To answer some of the questions in regard to the price of GTI;

Dealer delivery is a hugh rip off, when our car came in the dealer turned around and charged us $4000 take it or leave it. We were so taken with the car we would have paid anything to get her. Needless to say they did not get the order for our new T-Reg In regards to a second hand Gti, YES they do hold their value very highly and are in great demand thus the price. These cars are totally brilliant in every way.

I am selling my GTi in June\July:
Black, DSG, Xenon, Sunroof, Customised 18inch wheels with low profile tyres, Reversing sensors, Parrot Bluetooth, Illuminated scuff plates, Customised leather interior, window tint, deep boot liner, 29000k as good as the day it came out of the showroom.

I will be asking $40000 for it well worth it and that is what they are selling for on the net especially considering all the extras, if anyone is interseted contact me.

The thing i am finding confusing atm, is the corporate discount.

The Dealer Del comes down to $995 and the list price of the car $42999 gets 10% off.

I have just been ADV that the dealer pays half the corporate discount.

This is where it gets confusing, because dealers are giving off the street people what amounts to a corporate discount.

OK, would $47K drive away for a

Black, 5 door, DSG, ROOF, Leather, Xenons be a good price?
or should i push for more ie: Tints etc.

                    Thanks.

Push for all u can get, never gice up on pushing, go for tints, mats, protection, mudflaps if u so desire, once u are sure u cant get the price any lower then start adding things to it.

I just picked up my GTI last weekend. I was entitled to corporate discount through work which is 10% off RRP of base car (not off options) + $995 delivery fee (instead of usual $2,995). Got a March 2008 build Candy White 5dr with DSG and leather for $43,940 on the road (QLD). This was without any further discounts. As I financed the car to use for work I was more concerned with monthly payment amount then cost of the vehicle, plus the dealer was able to locate and arrange the car for me only 8 days after I made an enquiry (rather than the usual 3-4 month wait), so overall I was extremely happy!!!!

I just gave my credit card details over the phone to hold the car (Sydney Dealer)

Black, 5 Door, Gti, DSG, Sunroof, Leather, Drive away $45K.

I mass emailed last night 10 + dealers in NSW, 1 from Tamworth rang first thing in the morning and 1 from Sydney rang late in the arfternoon.

I don't know if i have put a deposit prematurely, could i have squeezed tints, mats etc or even delivery to Newcastle and fuel?

I've seen three of the four VW dealerships that are within easy driving distance of me in Sydney, and none of them are shifting on price at all (on either the R32 which I'd prefer or the GTI which is my second choice if I can't get a good deal on the R32). I'm considering going outside of Sydney now if I can get a good deal elsewhere - a flight to Brisbane or Melbourne is only $99 if I play my cards right, even Adelaide's not much more expensive, and I'd really enjoy the drive back home.

I've heard that an ABN is all that's required to get the 10% discount from VAG. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
