Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks Cupra. My Mrs works out that way, and she's the one who would be driving the car, so it's pretty likely that that's where ours would be serviced.

How was the experience? ... Did you get a loaner?

Also was that the dealership where the lease was organised?

    cheers

Same story here, it's my lease & my wife drives the golf to work in Penrith every day while i'm forced to drive the cupra to work every day!

It was the 45k service with a problem with the stereo & the auto wipers. Service done without any additional problems found or charged for. A new auto wiper sensor was fitted & a new head unit ordered, both under warranty which runs out next month. Jerry, one of the service managers meet us as we arrived at about 7.40 ( nepean has a meet & greet service, the guys have all the booked in cars details on clip boards & just check your number plate as you drive up) He took all the details about the additional problems & then gave us a voucher for their cafe for coffee & snacks. I was sent a text at about 3 pm that the car was ready. Pick up was easy & Jerry had a print out from the computer for me as well just in case I wanted to know what the car was saying. So for this service it is all good news, I'm a happy golf driver.

We didn't get a loaner, but they do have a shuttle bus that they run into Penrith

yes, we got the car on lease from nepean before they moved to the new facility

I've been dealing with Nepean since christmas 04 when we ordered the tdi. Apart from the long wait the buying experience & pick up were great. I've only had two poor experiences since,

Windscreen replaced: the front seats were not covered when the pulled the old screen out which meant the leather seats were covered in fine shards of glass which I found after I been given the keys back, no final check.

I put my father in law into a tdi during the last sale & while we got a good deal, the delivery was not a great experience for the old man, very rushed & the sales man wasn't interested in explaining how things worked. he just seemed to rushed of his feet to really put in any more time on the day.

Overall I'm happy with Nepean but some days they can push the friendship.

      Hope this helps.

Good to see that Penrith VW service department is way more than up to scratch over their sales department. They are still a joke in my eyes(Sales that is).

Yeah Phil that was a great run down... thanks for that!

Obviously if you're recommending the Golf to your old man you must think it's a pretty good car. Mine drives a Diesel X5 and has been a big advocate of Diesel for a long time.

From the day he went for a ride in ours he's been desperate to get his bum into a tdi as his last car.

So the service interval for standard Golfs is 15,000kms?

Is this the same for the GTI, GT 1.4 and GT 2.0?

              Thanks,

              Dom.

Now the problem is that the Toyota has racked up an extra 50k over the ten years. So if we base it off km it looks like this.

                To 100,000KM

                Toyota: $3366.25
Volkswagen: $3296.20 (with a bonus 5,000KM thrown in!)

So surprisingly the Volkswagen comes out on top even still. If the figures on that site are accurate then the Golf is the way to go! (Corolla is already completely uninspiring though much better looking than the last generation box with rounded corners 'style').

That's where you guys come into it! Does $252.68 ring true as the service cost for the 15,000KM service? or is the real world figure inflated?

Hopefully I don't come across as a complete tight-ar5e..... just had some 'friends' try to warn me off VW because of higher servicing costs.
are these just he labour cost and miscellaneous charges? Do they include parts as well?

I had my 15k service at Denlo Chatswood last time, they charge me about $600 but included wheel alignment. The above $252 seems to be just the labour cost??

I would say those prices are the fair prices that should be charged (including parts).

From my experience, VW dealers charge double the 'fair' price.

$600 seems a lot. Can you post the line items on the invoice.

The basic $15k service is $400 at the upper end of the price scale.

A 4 wheel alignment will be $140 at the worst but generally more like $80-$100.

What else did they do? tyre rotation & balance? They probably charged for that as well.

I guess that's the price you pay for using the dealer as a "One Stop Shop"
