  • Anybody tuned their Mk 5 R32

I would also be interested if anybody has dynoed their car before/after?

    Yes...have done the following so far to my DSG 5 door;

    1. BMC panel filter - improoved feel through mid range (no dyno)
    2. Full Milltek system including headers - (dynoed 17more AWKW with no tune)
    3. Revo Tune - yet to get it back to the dyno but a very noticeable improovement in driveability and seat of the pants go. Fuel consumption increase due to excessive use of the right boot
    4. VF engineering turbo kit due for release anytime soon - cheque book and dyno ready for that one.

    Cheers

R32slow - I would be really interested to hear the results of the dyno after the Revo tune as well. Can I ask where you are and where you had it done?

I have got 10k km's on my R32 now and am looking for a tune to see if I can liven it up a bit. Particularly interested in an increase in mid range which I think is where the chips improve things from reading OS results.

Did you look at any others before the Revo? The only MKV R32 tune I am aware of is APR and Revo, so tossing up between the 2 at the moment.

        Hi R32slow,
thanks for the reply. What did your car put out at the wheels? Mine made 219bhp corrected. (6-man car) Very avg. Only got 4000klms.
Where are you? if in Melb. would be interested to catch up.

Dosent feel any where near my old tuned GTI 5 which was very quick.
Full milltek fitted now, big dif. in feel.
Next BMC CDA then ECU remap from APS in the UK as they have some very good maps for the R32 etc. Gary who works with them used to work at AmD.

Anyway R32 calling for a trash home from work

        Cheers,

        Simon

I haven't tuned my own but I've done a good number of them, including a few dyno runs - let us know if you have any questions!

            Hi Lams,

Yeah great, I've got a couple of questions:

            - Do you have any before and after graphs for a standard car (no other mods)
            - What sort of chip was it
            - Do you have anywhere in Melbourne where it can get loaded
            - Any observations from driving before and after? Seat of the pants tes?

            Cheers,

            Dan

              Hi Simon & VWR032,

Am in Sydney. Had the tune done by the tech guy who came out for the Revo dealer tuning. Very impressive software and of course you can get the gadget that gives you the option of 3 tune settings....ie fuel 95, 98, 100...etc

Going to get George at Volks Villiage up here in Kennsington to check my tune as it is a little rich. I had the tune done with half a tank of 98 and I run it only on 100RON....

I would be happy to recommend the GIAC, AMD or Revo. Peak Performance also do Revo. I have heard of good reports from GIAC dealers about their tune too. Revo is competitive price wise and they offer a 6 hour tune for evaluation that reverts back to factory.

I guess all I can say is check the AFR's accross the range as some companies lean it out a little too much initially in the tune. Pick someone that is close to you for back up and reflashing if it happens to be overwritten by VW through an update.

The VF turbo runs on GIAC so eventually it will be GIAC tuned. Exotic Car Service Centre does GIAC.

Before the exhaust my R made 142awkw which also seems a little shabby. Need to get back to the same dyno for a comparison after Revo.

Re the BMC CDA...I did read on a UK forum that someone had done a test back to back with the panel filter...and the panel was better...but that was some time back and long lost in cyberspace.

Anyhoo...will get around to the dyno when work permits and post the change.

              Cheers

                Hi Dan,

We have been using DMS Automotive's upgrade - we use DMS for cars like Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, we've even done a handful of Ferraris.

Here's a graph of a customer's car here in QLD:

The biggest difference it makes in my opinion is the torque, especially in the midrange. The car just feels a lot more eager to rev, where the stock map felt a little lazy (we're used to turbo cars with midrange torque!) Also gets rid of that dip early in the revrange

Our Melbourne is Volkspower in Burwood (9808 6777), they have done a good number of them, including one loaded with software, headers, intake and Haldex which reduced the lap time at Philip Island by 2 sec

My unit only put out 115kw at the wheels! On the dyno dynamics dyno. This equates to about 220bhp at the flow with a 40% loss for a 4wd transmission which is what allot of the UK tuners seem to get on newer cars.
So as you can imagine i was well impressed, not! And that was on 100RON too.

Full exahust system has made a big differance with much more mid range and top end.
Will let you know how the CDA feels and if it makes any power.

                  cheers

Ps. lams, the power delevery looks totaly dif. to mine. Strange??

                    Hi QSZ,

It is strange... we wouldn't expect 40% loss, but that's on the controversial topic of dynos... however, this partciular car was dynoed in 2WD mode, disconnecting the haldex

We always use the same dyno by the same dyno operator to do before & after - we believe this is the only accurate way of measuing what an upgrade did. We claim 14kw increase at the engine for the R32 software.

The headers and airbox add a bit too:

What sort of dollars are you asking for that work? Is it stealth, can you revert back to stock on demand?

Just to clarify.. the DMS update alone gives a 40Nm gain? I've only just taken delivery this week of my R32, coming out of a V8 (so used to lazy power) and have been quite impressed how easy the needle whips up to the speed limit... is it a stealth device? I'd hate to void my warranty 2 weeks into ownership.

Given the rising fuel costs and a steady foot, do you have any stats on relative fuel consumption?

I'm sure to pay you guys a visit sometime...
