Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Help me find VW wheel logos!

    Hey all,

Recently bought my first Golf. Pretty excited I must say. Picked up a MY08 Golf GT Sport MKV in Black. It was in very tidy condition bar the wheels. Unfortunately the previous owner was not entirely great at parking and has left some horrid gutter rash on the mags which has also ripped off the logo badges in the middle of the wheel. Ideally I'd like to replace all four rims (right hand side rims are ok just left side that has the rash all over them) however for the meantime I'm prioritising buying four new 'VW' logo caps for the middle of the mag.

I'm yet to find the right ones on Ebay... they all seem to be clip on ones where as the type I'm after doesn't clip in I believe the cap is just glued on. Anyway there are some pictures below so you get the idea.

My rims are the stock 17" that came with the car originally.

And incase anyone is wondering, yes apparently the tyre is still 'roadworthy' with those massive chunks out of it!!

    Cheers for any help

You can't buy the VW logos on their own, as far as I'm aware.

Part number for the whole cover is 1K0601149J for chrome/black VW logo, or 1K0601149J8Z8 for chrome/silver VW logo.

When I bought the smaller centre caps, they came with a few spare metal caps (without the plastic mount). I don't recall what I've done with them now, though it may be worth an email to some of the ebay sellers to ask if they have them. You will need to know the size of the insert, measure it up and start emailing them.

PS. The image may be deceptive, but I'd be getting a second opinion on the roadworthiness of those tyres with the chunks out. If it's to fail, it'll be at the time you need it to grip most - over committed in a corner or blasting down the highway.

I'd get the whole centre cap, probably will cost you the same money. I'd watch out with those tyres as well mate, don't wanna be going sideways around a bend (at least not unintentionally anyway )

Good Bridgestone had a sale the other day I think where you got a set of 4 with the 4th one free for $450-$600 I can't remember. Is your GT Sport a TSI or TDI?

Mine is a TSI. I don't know if you can point me in the right direction but I'm also looking for a good mechanic in Brisbane who knows their Golfs (and more so the TSI engines). I believe there's a minor issue with my car but VW and Austral want way too much money just to get into the engine regardless of what the diagnosis is.

Stick on logo caps are available on
Aliexpress.com. you just need to know what size you need. I used to have some on my old caddy. They had been on for almost 2 years when I sold it. Never had an issue with them coming off.

Thanks mate I see you are from Gold Coast... are you per chance selling a similar Black GT Sport at the moment? There is one going on Gumtree with 150xxx kms for about $10k I believe.
