Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GTI Door ? Leak

I have a 6 month old GTI with a leak around the driver's door when it rains heavily. The highest damp spot is up near the vent about 15 cms above the bottom of the side window and the lowest is just near the bonnet release handle where two pieces of plastic cabin liner meet and a steady drip is produced.

Has anyone struck a similar problem with what looks to be a leaking door seal, but could be coming from somewhere else?

    Thanks

Sounds like a windscreen leaking to me as it's coming down inside the A pillar.

If you have a sunroof this would be the most likely culprit as the drains will most likely run down the A pillars and maybe the C pillars as well.

I had this exact problem with my outback, bloody dealer monkey dislodged one of the drain tubes when refitting the roof lining.

If you wanted to you could pull back the A pillar cover (see the bluetooth install guide at golfmkv.com) and get someone with a host to spray the car, you should be able to identify where the water is coming in this way.

Good luck! I know how pissed I was when I had my leak as they had to replace the carpet, lining and so on. You also have a lot of electrical connections in that areas (fuse box) but you should be ok as they are set back from where the water runs down.

      Thanks.

The car is still under warranty - took it back to dealer who agreed with leaky windscreen option and likely check of stripping cover off A pillar, just hope they make a decent job of putting it back on. Its my second warranty job since October.
