  • The day has finally come!

So.. I woke up this morning and had a really good think about what I was going to do to prepare myself for a long negotiation process at Volkswagen in Penrith.

This would have been my 3rd visit in 3 weeks (the 1st being to make enquiries, the 2nd to test drive and the 3rd to make a deal).

Walked in and was greeted by the sales guy I was previously dealing with. So we sat down and after previously agreeing on a trade in allowance of 23k on my Accord Euro I was really set to achieving a change over of no more than 20k.

After much negotiation and consulting managers etc.. We came to an agreement of 20k!

    The package:

3 door MY08 build Tornado Red GTI
    Manual
    Black anthracite Leather
    Tints (free)
    Full tank of fuel (free)
    First service (free)

The car is available in Australia at another dealer's holding yard, I will receive confirmation on Monday afternoon from VW on an expected delivery date. The manager is estimating around 2 weeks

    I'm EXCITED!!!!!!

Much better than my experience out there!

Was a sale weekend and was shopping for an R32 and was looking at some used ones. They were trying to sell me a 2006 Black R32 for $62k. According to the dealer it was optioned with leather seats which is why it was so expensive.

Congratulations for obviously side stepping him. Been waiting for my R32 for 2 months and it's due Monday. No excitement right now, I'm over the wait.

Lucky you had a good experience with them...My experience with Penrith started well, then quickly turned to clag.
-Numerous phone calls from the financial staff telling me I was making the wrong move by not going withe their recommended finance provider(how wrong they were!!).
-Options ordered on the car not delivered with it, then when I asked them to be delivered to the NT, they wouldn't do it.
-After negotiating to get the $2100 paid back to me for the options, they try to stall on the deal. Phone calls not returned, buck passing though different departments. I kept a full record of discussion on the whole thing, and this was forwarded to the Department of Fair Trading. I ended up getting the money 4 months after I got the car!!
Not a recommended dealer by myself and a few other people I know who have had some less than pleasurable dealings with them.

Don't want to steal your thread... Bought it at Mascot. Blue 2 door with DSG brand new, significantly cheaper than $62k onroad with fleet discount. It was already built and loaded onto a freighter so that cut down a lot of the time if it had to be built.

Wasn't aware that dealers were asking so much for R32's 2nd hand so I decided to price a new one, not realising I was entitled to a ~$9k discount.

2 weeks I could probably still be excited about it, in fact I think I still was. But boy did that first 2 weeks go slow. I was tracking the damn thing from port to port on the freighters website.

If it's already in Aus, there's a good chance you'll see it before 2 weeks. They've probably given you a large time frame to cover any delays they can't account for. From the day mine landed off the ship (destined for Brisbane) to time of delivery for me was 1 day shy of 2 weeks. So it had to be quarantined I believe, complianced and shipped from Brisbane to Sydney. I'd suspect that yours has already gone through that ordeal, don't want to get your hopes up but you may be in your new car sooner than you think.

You will get it, I have been in the similar situation, they won't delay the delivery as it is almost the end of fin. year and they need to roll as much cars as possible. You going to enjoy the GTI.

hrmm i have a feeling i'm in some shaky water..

today i received a call from the salesperson to notify me that the car i signed for on saturday wasn't actually in stock at another dealers holding yard as it had been sold a month ago without the information on their system being updated...

i also found out that the other car available in a 3dr red gti, manual with leather also has a sunroof + bi-xenons.. going to cost me an extra 3.7k... what would you do??????

You can have them order you in the car, it's comes from Germany so you could be looking at 4+ months. And the dealer will screw you on the trade at this point because you're committed, Austral VW in Brisbane tried to screw me for an extra 4k AFTER I had traded my car (still waiting on my car from them at this point).

Or you can pay the extra 3.7k now (hit them for a discount) and get the car now.

I would take the second option, the bi-xenons are well worth it, I had them on the two cars I ordered but ended up settling on a GTI without them to get a car sorted out.

I'd shop around at other dealers. I don't believe the whole VW dealer network is connected so the stock can be fragmented among several franchises.

When I was shopping for mine, the dealer in Liverpool suggested his only R32 in blue available was due in 2 months and was fully optioned. The dealer I got mine from had one allocated in the specs I wanted available roughly at the same time, checked carsales a few weeks ago and another R32 in the specs I wanted was listed in Vic.

If it has to be built, expect a long wait.

So I spoke to the dealer yesterday and apparently the car is in NSW being complied.. He did state that he is hoping to see the car at the dealership sometime this week.

Any idea how long it usually takes to comply a brand new vehicle?

i'll be really stoked if I can get it by Saturday..
