  • Looking to Buy

    Hi all,
After recently coming across your site and reading through some great info I thought it time to post.

I will be due to to trade out of my current car (2003 Mazda 6 classic) in the next couple of months and am looking at the various options available.
I just returned from a holiday in Europe and had at my disposal a Golf TDI - equivalent to a 'Pacific' from what I can compare. That was an awesome car and very well suited to do the 150-170km/h cruising speeds in Germany. Rock solid, quiet and with plenty of power. And yes, they can comfortably exceed 200km/h!

As a result I'm just about sold on getting one as my next car but am having some trouble deciding on which model.
Ideally I'd like the GT Sport TDI but unless I can do a good deal it is probably just out of my reach. This leaves the GT Sport TSI or the Pacific TDI. Unfortunately neither of the GT models were available for test drives when I visited the dealer this week (Victoria Park in Perth) so would appreciate any advice owners or those that have driven and compared the 3 models can provide. In my mind the 103kw model would be 'adequate' but think in the long term that I'd miss the extra power of the GT models. However I'm not the boy racer I used to be and don't want a peaky power delivery so am very curious as to how the 1.4 TSI drives.

    Any feedback would be appreciated

Also, you have a great and friendly forum going on here, keep up the good work!

hi paul welcome to the forum. ive driven the tsi but own the gt tdi. depends what you're after really. you have to think about whether the tdi is worth the extra dosh to you (however it will retain better value if you sell it too). are you going to buy manual or dsg? the tsi is such a sweet engine, feels like a v6 with its linear power deliver when its actually a tiny 1.4, its really a pleasure to drive especially with the manual transmission. however im a self confessed lead foot and this was one of hte reasons for buying a diesel: it uses marginally more fuel when driven hard whereas its not hard to double or triple your consumption when driving a petrol car hard.

the gt tdi and gt tsi are two very different cars. tsi is linear power, long gears and dare i say it i think its easier and smoother to drive. however the tdi is a LOT of fun. dont forget that a gti starts at only 1000 more than a gt tdi starts at (37500 for gt tdi and 38500 for a 3dr gti). good luck with your search. but make sure you drive ALL the options first since they're all so different.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. I have driven a 103kw TDi and i loved it, but i havent driven the any of the GTs. Maybe you should go to osborne park VW, they might have a GT you can take for a drive. It seems like they sell more cars than Vic park

        Hi Paul,

Nice to see another Perth man. I personally would recommend Oz Park VW over the one in Vic Park(not to mention the name). I am pretty sure they have the demo there for you to play around before making your decision. Try to go there and see if you could get any luck with the discounts and stuffs. Cheers!

Thanks for the replies guys, it is the manual I'm looking at so it appears that the TSI might well be worth a good look. The only downside I can see with it though is the servicing cost and will definitely check that out when I visit Osborne Park which will hopefully be tomorrow.

gday and welcome aboard. We bought my wifes MY08 GT TSI from Osb Park VW and highly recommend them. The GT TSI is an amazing car for a 1.4 ltr petrol engine. You wont believe the torque and linear power delivery you get out of it.

              Hi Paul,

I can't agree with RWK anymore!

I tried Vic Park and didn't even get served, I headed over and dealt with Iain Scott and Ozzie Park, he is an absolute legend I can tell you right now they have a Graphite TSI sitting there as a demo.

I have just got my TSI and i love it. The power delivery is so linear and the car has no trouble reaching 160 in no time (conducted on a closed private road of course!)
I got mine with DSG and Bi Xenons for an absolute steal, they are definitely willing to do a deal and I definitely didn't pay anywhere near RRP. Also I saw a perk on the forums where you register your ABN with VAG and then you get a fleet discount! That could be the best $90 you will ever spend getting an ABN if you don't already have one.

I Asked the same question, I got told around $280 for a service. I will wait to see if that is the case however!

                Hey Dan,

Please read carefully. I think I did say Oz Park VW is better too.

Show us more pictures of your new toy Dan. Like interior pictures etc.

The white looks damn hot on GT. Has the Bi-xenon on yours equipped with adaptive cornering light? If it has, tell us how you feel about it.

Pics will be up tomorrow after some serious detailing has been done!

I am unsure if it has or not, I will need to have a look the next time I go around a corner.

It feels good to be running with Xenons again though, I love how every other driver flashes you as they think it is high beam, until you burn their retinas out when you actually do turn the high beam on!

I requested a pricelist from you earlier this week that you sent through on email (thanks for that), if all goes to plan I'll try and get in to see you tomorrow if you're available.

Welcome to the forum, good to have someone on board who can give the dealer's perspective. Seems to me that there is much to be gained from hearing both sides of the story.
