Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, that's the sort of thing likely to be used in the A6 et al.
I wonder if the R8s will ever get DSG. Probably. The R-tronic is almost universally criticised and Porsche/Ferrari already have DSG cars in production (911 PDK and Cauliflower)

Buy the 2L TDI GT, Longer range, easier to mod. Possibly better resale but higher initial price so thats about even.

... and you know im not biased!

anyone know how these superchips compare to the Oettinger reflash?

          (oettinger.com.au)

Are you able to order the superchip remap from UK and install it yourself?

Or do you need to buy the bluefin as well to do the install?

          Cheers for the info.

Bluefin is a hand held flash device that stores your tune, sends it to Superchips UK who then send you back a file to upload onto your car using the Bluefin device.

Superchips makes Bluefin- a tuning device.

thanks Polarbear.. that makes sense.. if you buy the bluefin do you then have to pay for the tune too?

No... bluefin is the device + the tune inside the device.

IT is GREAT value. They provide you with a beautiful hand held flashing tool, that also scans engine codes... It downloads your factory map and then allows you to get that map modified. Thereby retaining your factory updates etc up to that point.

Then when you fit an exhaust or extras later.... unlike APR, they give you FREE upgrade maps.... FREE Race fuel maps, Free Exhaust maps, Free stage 2, 3 type maps.

Basically you pay once and then enjoy.

Also, if a dealer wipes your car, you don't have to go back to your APR dealer to get the flash put back on, if that dealer is still in business even!

At the current exchange rate you should be able to pick one up for $750 delivered from JKM performance in the UK.

I've had nothing but good service from them.

There is also the ChippedUK ST3 option for self tuning too.
Read around on the posts both here and at Golf MKV , there is plenty of info on both devices.

Some prefer the bluefin and others prefer the ST3.
The ST3 has smoother power delivery and may also have lower EGT's

nice work MrX on the JKM.. they have it cheaper than superchips.co.uk

I think ill be ordering one shortly..

Any idea on shipping times and how long it takes for them to provide a new map once you emailed it to them?

                        Cheers.

When I ordered springs from JKM, they sent them DHL & I had them in 3 days! (Even with primo freight costs it was still only 2/3 the cost of buying locally).

Re the Bluefin, if you send through your existing map during UK business hours they usually seem to respond within a couple of hours.

hmmm.. got my bluefin today from JKM. took a week from payment.. not bad.. have downloaded my original ecu map.. took about 3 minutes too easy..

tho plugging it in via usb now to upload the map and when i click connect i get:

E-getdetailsfrombluefin - no response from initial communication with bluefin..

its all recognised by windows xp and listed in device manager as working though it isnt happy..

oh well probably have to wait till support wakes up in UK..
