Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1 More sleep till I pick up my new TSI

    Hi Everybody,

I haven't properly introduced myself so here goes:

My Name is Daniel, I live in Mandurah W.A
I have just made my first VW Purchase more as a commuter car than anything. I bought a Candy White TSI with Xenons from Ossie Park VW.

The bloke who I dealt with there was an absolute top bloke. I highly recommend him and the dealership to another metro dealership in Perth!

I also own a Mazda CX-7 which is purely my partners car and I previously had a Mazda 6 MPS, FPV F6 Typhoon and a WRX.

The build quality of the VW is like nothing I have owned before, I am quite excited to get it and will post pics as soon as I get it.

I am a bit worried about some of the stuff I have read about the run in period as all of my driving from the minute I get it will be 100km/h down the freeway. Plus I am also reluctant to drive it to my work which I am contracted to at the moment as it is down south on a construction site with a 15km long gravel access road, but this can't be avoided!

Anyway I look forward in reading the forums and I am sure I will learn a lot of valuable things from here.

First mod will definitely be a HiTV V2000 unit for the vehicle as I think the RNS510 is way over priced for what it is!

    Cheers

    Dan

Welcome to the friendly forum Dan.

Congrats on the new car, I'm sure you will have a smile on your face when you get it. You'll probably find yourself making excuses to go for a drive.....I know I do even though mine is approaching 2 years old!

    Cheers

I think I talked to you before on the OzMazda forum Dan. I remembered you. I owned a black Mazda 6 MPS as well but sold it 3 weeks ago. Remember you asked me for replacement park lights and where to get them in town...this sort of stuffs. Haha.....you finally got rid of your FPV for a VW. We both are again on the same boat. I also ordered a VW but a Passat and will arrive Fremantle tomorrow. Welcome to the forum!!

Another person saved from the blue oval of death! Welcome!!

All I miss of FPV is the sound. One area the diesel especially, lacks!

Awesome new toy, and mate you can run it in on the highway, just make sure you keep changing the revs, and I'd even suggest going out on the first day just with the intention to run it in. Pick it up on a day off and drive the very long way home : ) Load it, make it work.

The first few hundry will be the most important, and moto-man usa reckons the first 80kms is the key run in range in high revving road bikes...and your new toy is quite similar!

Just keep it boosting, will sort the rings and do the trick, and that should be really easy to achieve with twin charging!

Perhaps invest in a K&N panel filter for the dusty road, and wash it regularly. I have an as new one that I plan to sell as I went to a pod about 1000k after buying one so I'm happy to sell that to a forum member for half price. Oh and get some mudflaps and headlight stick on armour too!

Anyway, welcome to much friendlier forum!!

                Thanks for the replies everybody!

So with the first 100 or so k's do you guys recommend giving it a bit of a thrashing?

                This can be done

I am working near harvey, so there are plenty of winding hilly roads there so the car will definitely get a work out there but that is 200km from where I pick the car up tomorrow so it wont be in the first 100k's

I will see what the dealer has to say as well.

                Cheers

Within reason ... I wouldn't redline it ... but ensure that the engine is loaded up fairly consistently.

                  Cheers and best of luck.

                    Hi Dave,

Congratulations - especially on the colour choice I'm waiting on delivery of a GTI myself (Candy White all the way!) and my housemate has just ordered a new GT TSI.

Just wondering if you had to get the GT + xenons specially built? My friend who ordered the GT is dead keen on xenons but was told there were none arriving in the country as it's not a very common option! So he has to decide whether to give up the bi-xenon dream or wait 4+ months...

                    Thanks,

                    Ben
Delivering soon...3-dr Candy White GTI / DSG / Xenons

I was the luckiest SOB on earth.

I needed the car within days, I wanted Xenons and the RNS510. The dealer called back and said he had a White (really wanted silver but white was definitely my 2nd choice) with Xenons and no RNS510 in stock as finance had fallen through from a previous deal and it was sitting in their holding yard! Needless to say, I bought it over the phone!
I am getting a HiTV unit fitted to it as soon as I get it which looks like the cheaper and better option over the RNS510 anyway.

So in answering your question, I waited around 30 minutes until the dealer called me back.

                        Hi Dan,

Yup, thats me. Nice to see you on this forum too my friend.
Congratulation on your new purchase. BTW, I remembered you had a white MPS6 before....What colour was your F6?

I waited for 4 months for my Passat because I optioned almost everything on the list. I don't mind waiting.

Well everybody, I picked the car up last night!

First impressions of the car far exceed what I was expecting. The car is direct, has plenty of power and is finished absolutely perfectly!

I got to the dealership and the vehicle was inside the showroom ready to go.
The pre delivery from Iain the salesman was second to none, he put me to shame when it came to the deliveries I used to do at Mazda that is for sure! The pre delivery ran for about 30 minutes and he covered the ENTIRE car, from checking oil to changing the tyres.

                          Now the downsides...
When I was leaving I went to wind the drivers window down with the auto function to find that it was not working. It didn't work going up either. All the other windows worked as they should though.
Iain jumped in and reset the whole car and re configured everything. Still no good. He tried a couple more things before getting the service manager. He came out and tried holding the switch down for 3 seconds which didn't fix it.
A mechanic came out with the computer and plugged it in. Iain and I left them whilst I went and drolled over a R50 and R32 and wished I have $20 - $60K more so I could have bought one of these instead!
We got back and it wasn't fixed. They will have to replace the switch by the looks. This is absolutely no problem with me as they tried their best and it was probably done via the window tinters that day more than it being a fault in the vehicle from factory.
This morning on my long drive to work (260km) I noticed when I got past 6000rpm a terrible vibration would start in the top airvent on the dash.

The way I see it if they are the only 2 things wrong with the vehicle, I am doing pretty bloody good!

Anyway the detailers at the dealership did such a brilliant job of cleaning it, however that only lasted a night.

This is the culprit (the 20km access road to the dam I am working at, the moment

This is the photo nobody wants to take with a brand new car!
