Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My Golf has standard, non HID or Xenon headlights.

There is a section next to the blinker, for which as much as I have seen doesn't seem to have anything it it. Check my L337 pic...

Is this something about DRL's? Cheers

I think you're right. The yanks have those lights connected, we don't.
Dunno why, as 'parkers' they look heaps better than that poxy globe that hangs foul in the high beam.

Wonder if they could be swapped

PS - that's an attractive VW that you have...

I have the Bi-Xenons on my GT Sport so that bit in your picture is my parkers and they look great.

Like has been said, heaps better than having a globe hanging out of the main beam reflector.
I'm sure it wouldnt be too difficult to perform some surgery on the lights to change this.

I wonder if it's as simple as pulling the bulb & wire out of the main beam and plugging it into the 'blinker' part? I wonder if they've been nice enough to leave it for me?

Will check after work (may need to grind down the hands a bit, though)

I saw a post on the golfmkv.com about replacing the bulbs in there but after 20 mins of searching I can't find it again!

In the post there seemed to be a bracket where you just popped the bulb in and it was quite similiar to the one inside the hi beam parabola.

I replaced my hi and low beams with the Philips ninja extreme plus 80 jiggwatts bulb. The low beams were simple. The high beams were super hard.

It maybe because of my giant hands but I got them in but they weren't lined up properly. The dealer had to take out the lights and the bumper to fix them up.

They also fixed me up with an invoice containing 1 hour of labour...

After deciding I was sick of 'yellow' light coming from my GT I decided to change all my globes to Phillips Blue Vision (to match the Xenons) the parker globes were a total and utter biatch to do!!! You have to remove the blinker globe then just to the side of the blinker is the parker globe. Meanwhile they only give you enough room if you have hands the size of a small child!!! Needless to say it took some time and patience. I cant speak for the non xenon headlights but from what I read in the manual there is no other bulb holders for parkers in the standard headlights. Oh and BTW in the manual for a GT it doesnt tell you how to change globes if you have xenons So if anyone has xenons on a GT and they'd like detailed instructions let me know, more than willing to help and save you some skinned knuckles!!!
