  • Turning airbag fault light off with VCDS

Hi my airbag light has come on and a workshop said it was to do with the seatbelt pre igniter - not sure how correct they are as they were a little vague.

I am ordering a Ross tech micro can for another car and would like to know if you can clear the airbag code or make the airbag light to go out.

    Cheers.

Won't clear it if there's a fault. The seatbelts have pre-tensioners which are part of the airbag system.

Spend extra and get the top lead. micro can is only for mk5 chassis from memory.

MicroCan is OK for Mk5 Golf and later, plus most of the more expensive VW range from around then.

Polo's and the cheaper (non-CanBus) commercials are no-no's.

Thanks will check the codes myself when my VCDS cable arrives to make sure it is the issue.

Do the connectors crap out over time?

            Cheers.

Too much resistance in the connectors themselves, which is outside the parameters programmed into the airbag module.

Pretty easy to bypass the connectors. Just make sure you use duraseal crimp connectors (which you heat up when they're crimped, to seal the joint).

Thanks for your comments... So what is the best way to bypass the connectors? Can I soldier them or best to use crimps?

Are the connectors under the seat and do I need to remove the seat?

                Thanks

You can just undo the bolts, and tip the seat rearwards.

Use duraseal crimped connectors. Once you've crimped the wires together, apply heat to shrink the insualtion to prevent water ingress into the joint.

Ok found the one and cut out the connector and joined them. I still have the airbag light on....do you need to clear the light with the VCDS - cheers.

Yes, the airbag light needs to be cleared by a diagnostic scanner.

Like ABS, it won't self clear.

I'm hoping you had disconnected the battery when carrying out your wire repair?? If you didn't your very lucky. First rule when working with airbag system is disconnect the battery or the chance of setting one off is high.
