Help Wanted: GPS Issue

Hi,

I am new to the forum (and forums in general) Finally I have found somewhere to talk about my passion for all things Golf.

The help Ii am requesting, my better half has snapped our Whereis GPS CD in half. I rang VW and they have quoted me an insane amount of money for a replacment considering the initial cost of the unit. And the comparison cost of a completely new external unit.

My question is, is there a place I can download the file with correct map so I can put it onto disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No i dont believe there is as that would be an infringment of copyright.

Surely a replacement CD shouldn't cost that much - I guess they're trying to sell you updated maps.

I cannot answer your question as I dont have the factory GPS but I am sure someone out there can.

Welcome to the forum!

If you don't want to pay VW exuberant prices for a replacement disc, you can usually pick them up on ebay at about half the price.

Hi. By insane amount what was your quote? Mine cost around $360, which is about the going rate from some of the other guys who I've spoken to.
Is it a cd or a dvd- based system, as this may have a bearing on costs.
Apparently, if you're into infringing copyrights, torrent searches MAY (don't quote me here...) find the WhereIs maps.
Having said that, given that (a)the cartographers spend a lot of time putting these maps together and (b) BMW and Mercedes charge a hell of a lot more for almost the same maps, $360-odd doesn't seem too bad a price.

Who is the disc actually from or made by? This may help in 'replacement' not upgrade.

Surely there is a way you can send in the broken disc to a manufacturer for a replacement.

To note, sometimes software comes with a 1 year warranty for disc replacement.
