Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk V GTI wheels upgrade

    Hello guys,
just wondering if you guys could shed some light here.
    OEM MKV GTI running 17inch 225 45 R 17 with pcd 5 X 112 ( correct me if i am wrong)

I am just wondering if upgrading to 2008 Audi TT rims would be a problem. My understanding is the rims came with setting like 245 45 R 17. please give me some advice on this please. Width of 225 is that the max that i could have on my mk v gti?

no point going wider man. and yes TT rims will fit unless its the 19x9 ones in which case it will probably hit your suspension

It depends on the offset of the rims. Do you know what offset the TT rims are?
MkV rims have an offset of about 51.
Many Audi rims have an offset of 35, which means they poke out further. I don't think they will fit with 245 tyres on them, as I think they will poke outside the guards.
07 Golf GTI 3 door, Tornado red, 6 speed Manual
Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

tt rims have offset of 50 but you're right all the other audi's have offset of 35ish and wont fit

you'll have to confirm that even teh 8.5 wide tt rims wont hit your suspension though

I have 19 x 8.5 rims with a 45 offset.....tyres are 245/35 R19 and there is some minor scrubbing....if you go gigger than 17's, get the suspension dampener from VW they add it to the cars when they put the 18" option on.

235/35 R19 is the highest you can go on the GOLF GTI MK5 and Jetta.

Jettas have a bigger wheel base so 19s fit well but on a Golf GTI 18s are more recommended. If you want 19s on a GTI, you might have to modify the plastic guard inside the wheel so it doesnt scrape.

Check out golfmkv forums and vwvortex. This has been discussed sooo many times theres heaps of **** on it.
