Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Zing! If money is no object, then the GT TDI is a lay down misere.

Mind, I reckon, for what they are, the GTI ticks all three of Mischa's boxes as well. I know the OP can't have a GTI, but just sticking up for the petrol crew!

        Hey Mate,

        Another Sydney P Plater here..

I got the GT Diesel because I was on my P's and I must say I am loving it!

P's restrictions are only on turbo petrol, supercharged and V8's. I will say it once again NSW rules are so idiotic, you could theoretically drive the R32 but not drive the TSi !

So if money REALLY wasnt an option I would be going for the R32! Now that is a ride for a 17 year old haha!

haha yeah adrian i know the nsw rules are ridiculous. Yeah my cousin has an r32 thats what got me into golfs but the r32 is on a special list of racing cars that p platers aren't allowed to drive. Money is going to be an issue and because its an 08 car there arent to many going for much lower 2nd hand so i might be looking into other cars like the SP23 but we'll see what happens

Don't get a SP23, I test drove one before buying my MKIV. It makes too much road noise, you won't like.

wrong man. you can drive the r32. these are the only special cases of cars we're not allowed to drive:

P1/P2 licence holders are also restricted from driving the following 6-cylinder vehicles:

              *
              BMW M and M3.
              *
              Honda NSX.
              *
              Nissan 350Z.
              *
All Porsches from 1994 models onwards.
              *
              Mercedes Benz SLK350.
              so go buy an r32!

Man the KW doensn't excite me, but 350nm@1750rpm vs 200nm@3500rpm tells me the diesel will kick the FSI to the kerb

It is legal to drive a turbo DIESEL but not petrol. I'm on my P's myself and picked up a GT TDi 4 weeks ago.

If you are after a bit more power whilst on your P's go the GT.

It's not the quickest but it handles well and the amount of torque fools you into thinking you're going twice as fast as you are sometimes...
